You have to learn the lessons taught to you.. capcom, and pretty much all developers these days, teach me to wait/rent
you know what.. as much as i want this game i want the FULL game.
You can't expect them to put everyone in the game.
DLC is created along with the game.
Developers/publishers will plan their dlc calender year in advance because work has already been complete on the dlc - which is also why dlc is announced before release (regardless of success of the game), and you'll get locked content shown in the menu of the retail game
This is the full game. You see, the game has a fixed budget, when developers want to do something extra, they exceed the budget and the content created this way is called DLC. I'm fine with it as long as it is actually something worth the money, and as long as the game isn't bare bones (MvC3 isn't). Like say the outfits for SFIV surely didn't have their own budget, so it was a ripoff indeed, but say extra characters, why not. You have to create a 3D model, animation for it, hire a voice actor, do some balance testing etc.

So SF4 didn't have enough characters/content at launch to justify the full price of the game?
It's not about developer developing the DLC alongside, it is about the amount of content in the game.
Would you rather
a) NOT have any dlc at all and keep the original launch SF4
b) Pay more at launch and get the DLC characters
It's always the same whine. When there is no DLC, "Why isn't there DLC!?!" and when they make some DLC, "WHAT A RIPOFF!". So what, they should make free DLC?
DLC is voluntary. Game is too. You don't have to buy them... :)
What about when that dlc effects the game you've paid full price for? Like Halo 3 for example..where if you dont have a map pack you're locked out of game modes (and their supported maps that are on your disc) that you previously had access to?
Or what about when dlc is a forced download or it removes you from playing online thats part of the contents of the disc you've paid for (like fight night)?
What about when that dlc is shown as locked in the game you just paid for? (like cars in forza 3)?
What about when dlc locks you out of content that IS on the disc because it doesnt suit the publishers to give you access to what you've paid for yet...when they can later market it as "free" dlc support (like in bad company 2)
Is this all voluntary?
Day one DLC is garbage. It always has been, it always will be. You're not getting the whole game with Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 unless you buy the collectors edition @ a $10 premium, and even that's a bit of a stretch of the imagination at this point. The cost of gaming jumped dramatically this generation, and it's not to keep up with the cost of development--it's to keep up with what suckers are willing to pay. In a market with unlimited supply and unchecked demand, publishers will continue to gouge gamers, while they excitedly bend over.
I'm not even going to bother. The counter argument is commonly: "omg whiners!" Which isn't actually a position, it's just you whining about people having an opinion and voicing it.
