[...] I hear it's too "old school" for it's own good, though
Actually it's NOT old skool enough for it's own good. Had they gone with the same kind of fidelity Mighty No.9 is trying to achieve i would have welcomed it with open arms. Now it's just another bummer like Flashback that nobody wants to play.

Yes on the PC it's locked at steady 30fps, but apart from that. It's not a bad little game. Controls feels a little wooly, and the animation does get in the way of the collision detection too sometimes. We need more stuff like this though on the PC. A lot of old timers, like me have decent enough PCs and games like this are a nice change.
"old sk00l" does not mean only 2D, sorry. There's a feel, a rhythm and a lot of rough warts. If games could be defined as old sk00l merely by aesthetic, then anyone running a pixelate filter on their game would be "old sk00l".
When I said it's too old school for its own good, I'm referencing the controls, collision detection, the slave to animation states, basically the way the old game felt. It was great back then, but not so much now. Ducktales, Flashback and now Mickey prove that you can never go back. If you're going to do something "old", you need the flavour... the way people remember it, not the way it really was.
If I wanted to play a game exactly the way it was, I've got plenty of emulators for that. I want something that has the spirit and is true to those old games, but not slaves to them.
Ah, thanks for clearing that up, but yet i think a 2D HD treat (without the pixelated stuff) would have fitted the game much much better. I for one think the Duck Tales remake is very well done, almost perfect for a remake tbh (with only thing that can be improved further being the stage gfx). And I also think that controls and collision detection NEED to be as simple and close to the original to feel right -> again: 'modernized' analog controls in Flashback is what kills the game for me. In Castle of Illusion it's the 3D.

It's too bad no platform gets to play this at a proper frame rate. (60fps)
