I'd have preferred a remake of the SNES Magical Quest. I hated the Megadrive. They looked awful with their 64 colour graphics, and a terrible Yamaha keyboard sound chip. Although i will be hitting Steam for this when it arrives.

Man I love the look of this game, and they did a great job on the animations. I'm really impressed. I have lots of fond memories of the original. It was a fantastic game. Can't wait to get this!

Makes me wonder why are they even doing this. World of Illusion is no brainer to begin with.

Making a wild guess here, but your 'Better Aladdin game?'-vote would go to SNES/Capcom too, right ?

Had both systems (+ others) and even though the MD/Genesis was technically inferior in some aspects, it's the system i like the better. Sound wise too btw (SoR & TF OST ftw). It's basically where i believe my affinity for metal & electronic music is coming from (well, those PLUS Turrican).

Color palette wasn't really an issue if you ask me (since more colors =/= more pixels), at least not until some transparency came into play (i hate dithering) and of course later on with SegaCD and FMV.
But as a shmupper you don't have to think twice which system to pick, MD clearly has the better library (+ less sprite flickering).

Somehow i'm really underwhelmed by this 3D-Mickey remake (same for Flashback). On the other hand: If they released this as a NeoGeo remake i'd probably be the happiest man on the planet DD

There is not enough love for the Mega Drive/Genesis in general. And people tend to whine about the sound chip of the genesis...personally i by far prefer the Genesis over the assy general midi-wavetable of the SNES. Rather have my blips and blops than poorly faked real instruments :)

As for why castle of illusion? Because that is the super classic of these games. Nobody remembers the other ones, Castle of Illusion was the title that amde a splash. Loved it as a kid, remember it being one of the first MD games i got, next to Sonic and Hell Fire :)

Actually, the MegaDrive/Genesis had some superior hardware, including a dedicated Z80 chip used for a bunch of sound effects. Also, it had a much faster processor than the SNES (68000 vs. 6502c). It also outputted at a higher res, despite a more limited color palette, which enabled it to do dither tricks, better.

As for Mickey & Aladdin on SNES vs. Genesis, Castle of Illusion was/is a MASTERPIECE, period. The SNES Magical Quest is good and all, but Castle of Illusion was better. Much tighter controls, which is the life-blood of a platformer. Aladdin is kind of a push, although I liked the Genesis better, because of the MUCH SMOOTHER animation and sprite aspect ratio over the SNES.

The SNES always had superior sound, although it all seemed to be used for orchestral tunes, versus the more "rocking" things on the Genesis.

Well i still play SNES (zsnes), Metroid, DKC, Mario etc. as for the Megadrive i hardly ever. Gunstar Heroes, and Thunderforce IV. But Despite me spending a fortune on this pc, i still go back to the SNES games a lot.

So do i, emulators are just great. Browsing the mame library a lot these days and hell, did i miss out on some super awesome shmups. The PC-Engine had some little gems too and the Sega Saturn Shmup library is just uber-awesome, i didn't even know it had so many.
