Trailer PC Xbox 360 PS3

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood was released last week, and Techland takes the opportunity to hype the games' engine; Chrome Engine 4 is here shown in a video titled Living Environment.

Crikey... that is one impressive engine. I'd love to see a 3rd-person medieval action game made using this.

One thing that Cryengine 2 has over this in the pure pratical aspect, is that it has shown a great diversity of locations and enviromental variations, this one has not.
It will probably power Dead Island, but the scenarios wont't differ that much too.

Very pleasing to the eyes, though.

Looks technically nice, but not really "beautiful". imo.
Every Cryengine is like, technological perfection, but totally lacking any art or actual beauty.
The only exception is Aion, since its built on the Cryengine. And looks damn beautiful thanks to art design.

I hope this engine gets sold to some asian devs as well, they would do wonders with it. But as for Crytek, they are masters of technology, but not in art.

What are you basing that on? They've made a few games that were more realism-based with respect to graphics, so they weren't able to take as many artistic liberties with certain things. Also, the art on some of the less realistic things like the suit in Crysis is fucking awesome.

Impressive engine, looks very beautiful and I just love the dof effects. But it pales in comparison to Cry Engine 2 simply because of the amount of physics being pushed in CE2.

Completely agree. If you look at Crytek's design from a realistic point of view, then they are spot on. Anyway, this is surely a nice engine, but I do wonder about physics and more complex lighting( like in an urban or indoor setting).

This is looking to be quite exciting! The spider really impressed be, the rest is also very impressive but not as impressive as the spider part as this is one very small animal, hence a detail in the environment. While we already saw tons of other games which have birds and moving water.

So does Call of Juarez Bound in Blood look anything like this? If so, I might actually have to consider getting it. I also would love to see an Elder Scrolls style game with this engine. Or maybe even a Ghost Recon style tactical shooter. Looks really good imo.

Very nice. The Techland intro is pleasing as well.

One thing I noticed is Call of Juarez is really well optimized (on PC at least). Their PS3 tech needs a little work.

Is that on PC, or console? I would be getting the console version, as my PC is a tad weak.

Oh yes. A tactical shooter in the dense forest would be incredible. MGS series attempted a bit of that in parts of 3&4, but their engine couldn't handle foliage like this. Hunting/hiding would be awesome in this environment. Any word on whether CoJ: BiB has this type of game play along the way? Or is it purely a straight forward shooter?

Probably but it had the draw distance extended quite a bit because I'm playing Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood at the moment on my PC on maximum settings with 8X AA at 1680x1050 and the game shows a lot of pop up on rocks, fence posts and other objects as well as some very noticeable level of detail transitions (where objects use more detailed models and textures as you approach them). I never saw any of those issues in that video.

The annoying thing is that my PC is more than capable of handling a longer draw distance because without V-Sync it runs at over 100 fps and with V-Sync it never, NEVER drops below 60 fps.

See if there is a .ini file somewhere in the game install directory. You might be able to increase LOD distances by modifying it if there is one. I edited the hell out of my Oblivion ini file. Some graphical features had even been locked out entirely (probably too unstable at launch). Sometimes you get lucky and find all sorts of settings that you can't even find in the advanced display options in-game. Just be sure to keep a copy of the unedited file somewhere in case you mess something up.
