Xbox 360

One of the most talked-about features in Fable 2 is the co-op mode, so me and FireWire decided to try out online mode. We stayed out of any quests and just ran around killing enemies in early environments, so the video should be free of any spoilers. I joined FireWire's game and since he decided to go the evil path you'll hear a lot of screaming! Keep in mind that we're playing from different countries so there might be some lag.

Been playing co-op quite abit now that I've finished the main story.
Only let down is that the person joining can't use his actual character, but then again you can sort of understand with all the actions and so on which change the appearance of your character.
None the less it's a great addition and will add lots of replay value to this game.

Well i cant really understand it, because all the content is still on the host's machine.. The variances in evil-good appearances (skin etc) are just a bunch of numeric values that fades between textures and such.
So you should be able to use your own characters, its a shame we cant (yet) :(

I tried pressing Y to select my savegame, but still didnt get my character :(

The co-op for this game is utterly worthless

You stay tethered to each other
You don't retain anything from playing with one another
You can't trade with your friends
You can't use your own character (this is supposed to be about identity in this game, about who you are, you can't even show anyone who you are). Who wants to play through a game with their friend using a generic preset character?

you can tell co-op was never planned for fable 2
i can tell it was something they decided on adding just a few months before finishing

i dunno about anyone else, but fable is a game that i actually DONT want to play with other people...

to me its an escape from the real world for an hour or so and takes my mind of my worries and problems for a bit. its great to just immerse yourself in a good game every now and again, just like a good book. u wouldnt want someone leaning over your sholder while your trying to read a book. fable to me is more of a personal experiance, and one of the few games i'd rather play alone.

but at the same time, if your playing and ur borther or someone comes in and starts annoying you for attention, at least you can throw them a controller and let them join in and stop bothering you. just as long as they keep there hands off my wife ;)

not that i have a virtual wife yet cos my 360s in germany getting fixed... im gutted i got my copy of fable 2 in the post thismorning. i looked through the instrutions a bit but thats all i can do for now lol

I agree jioann00, i turned on the option to see eeeveryone as orbs in my game, not just friends.. And frankly, i think i'll be turning it completely off the next time i play the game. But the statement that coop doesnt give you anything is wrong, if you press Y to select your savegame, your collected gold and experience while in coop carries over to your own savegame.

First off its just annoying to see a bunch of orbs floating around with gamerpix, and hearing the general voicechatter..
Secondly, in some areas they are blocking my view LOL..
But mostly because it just destroys my immersion when i am exploring a dark damp LONELY cave, and i see 15 orbs floating around by the quest goal.

A Fable mmo would be nice, but not this time :)
If they ever release a patch or even DLC, that transforms the orbs into actual viewable characters running around, THEN we are talking :)

Well my friends all love to RP, so I was really loooking forward to playing Fable 2 and adopting a silly english accent with them and being totally in character. This is a realy big fucking let down. There is NO such thing as a game where you share the camera with your fellow player that isn;t annoying. There is NO need for that bullshit. And the whole not being able to use your own character is just stupid. There is NO excuse for that. And why would you make it so you have to manually make it give you the stuff?? Like, it should be something you turn OFF not ON.
UGH!! i am REALLY pissed, coop was the biggest thing this game had for me.

Agreed. The whole "well you can't have two heroes inhabiting the same Albion universe" argument is bullshit. Nobody would give a shit that another hero would be in there game. Make it so that people don't crowd around them and acknowledge them as being a hero. Problem solved. I really would love to hear the real reason behind the lack of being able to play as your own character in MP. I'm sure it'd be good for a laugh... kinda like how them explaining the poor animations would be good for a laugh.

I actually don't care one way or another, but I think it's pretty bad on their part to dick the customers like that by offering up a nerfed MP experience.

Souds indeed like co-op was tagged on in the last minute.. Imho they shouldn't have put it in at all if they didnt have the time to make it perfect.. But anyway, it's not something that has to be used, you can still ignore it completly and play Fable2 as a SP game.. It's just a dissapointment for the people that were looking forward to the co-op..

I agree with most points made here, of which the not being able to use your own character is the worst..

Ahem, ever since Peter M. dropped the bomb on Co-op he always told us you could use your own video.. There's enough trailers where he mentions it clearly....

Sorry guys, but he's right. They said specifically from the very begining that this is how it works. There's even a FAQ over on the official website that points out things like not actually using your own hero.

I do agree that it's a bit of a disappointment, but I was never expecting anymore from it. Fable is a single player game, the co-op was pretty much tacked on. It may not be that great, but it does have some interesting mechanics.. I could see Fable 3 being more of an MMO type game.

I just Hope Molineaux is taking notes.
If not a MMO, Fable 3 should exist as part MMO World to interact with other Players... farting and doing stupied and funny emoticon animations to NPCs to change value perceptions of the caracthers is one thing, doing a newly discovered "Ah AH... Fuck You!" animation in the world to a bunch of players & starting a Pub Quarrel, would be off the Hook.

MMO shuld stay the fuck away from fable

theres enough mmo's , not enough fables...

i dont understand how anyne can enjoy mmos so much and spend so much time on them, one day when mmos are like actual functioning virtual worlds then that will be cool, but untill then i have no intrest in leveling up a character hours on end

mmo has already ruined warcraft and knights of the old repulblic seris for me, i dont want to see it ruin fable too...

edit: however, peter can feel free to make a new fanchise mmo, i only have a problem if he changes fable into one... although i dont think mmo is a direction they will take fable in anyway

I'm not saying the game should be an MMO, but Fable certainly lends itself towards many MMO features. Being able to explore the world, with at least a couple of other people would work very well. But I agree that it shouldn't become something like WoW, the multiplayer features should be optional and there certainly shouldn't be a subscription fee.

But big multiplayer features, yes.

This message is in "Boulet Time" (TM), If you still *really* want to see it, click here
You have to laugh at some of the whinny fools bitching about the co-op demanding explantions for why they can't use their own character.
The real question is how on earth would they process the data in real time over the net needed for appearance changes as a result of actions taken place in another gamers save?
Some people don't seem to understand how complex the system is and with today's net technology, it would be next to impossible to achieve.
Of course they should have really done it for local co-op as there's no real excuse for that apart from keeping consistant with the LIVE options.
Even so, I find the co-op to be a brilliant addition to Fable 2. It's something to keep you busy once you've completed the game meaning you can just kick back and have fun with your friend helping him hunt down the silver keys and so on.
As for people suggesting a Fable MMO... hell no! We've already lost a great RPG series in KOTOR to MMO...

Dude, you have got to be joking. "Next to impossible to achieve?" Right...

I guarantee you the system is not that complex and is nothing more than a few(literally...just a few) sliders that we simply don't see.

Not being able to use your character, not being able to show him off to your buds, is absolute fail on Lionhead's part.

Hard to implement? Yeah right:

Everything in this game is based on numbers (and half of the numbers we won't even get to see)

For example:

Character X:

Evil/good: -30
Corrupt/pure: -10
Hairstyle: 5
Beard:4
And so on and so on...

This system is so simple it's pretty easy to implement. I mean they allready got the whole: "You can see everything in my world" system...
