Looks pretty sub-par and i'm not expecting the gameplay to be anything special either but we'll see i guess. Hopefully it's a step in the right drection this time, unlike fable 2.

I'm surprised it looks as good as it does with the amount of stuff they are cramming into 512MB

If only the ingame AA was this good, everything ingame so far has been very jaggy. I really want to like F3, I quite liked F2, but with them focusing less on the rpg side it has quelled my enthusiasm.

Not that there was ever much RPG-ing to be had in any Fable game. I just hope they make shit actually matter for once. Like have a goddamn point with getting married or owning houses and shit, not just having it there couse it'd be a cool thing and then it does absolutely nothing. Also perhaps make the social aspect of wooing the ladies and lads a little more interesting than farting and flexing 4 times each and then just bonking them, spawning useless children. Well at least they got rid of those god-awful jobs.

you just get the feeling that this, along with crackdown 2, were left no option but to be rush jobs - microsoft knowing how empty last year was for exclusives.

I cant force myself to get excited over this at all.. even though i loved Fable 1 and 2

i'll play it for the completions sake, but i wont be buying it after the second game, which for some reason got past reviews unscathed.

the main issue with the franchise atm is molyneux's crazy obsession with accessibility and streamlining. it's making the core gameplay far too basic for reasons megido pretty much summed up.

The allowance Lionhead gets from MS must be absolutely tiny, because Fable really never stopped looking like an Xbox 1 game. The budget constraints also seem to penetrate actual systems in the game, aswell as the actual "world" area in them.

Barring Alan Wake I just don't get the feeling that MS are investing much money into making their games seem "cutting edge" anymore. Meanwhile, Sony are pouring absolute buckets on top of their - sometimes rather sub par experiences - to at least make them visual powerhouses.

The whole next gen starts when we say so line Sony cracked out years ago doesn't seem quite as ludicrous anymore, only it has little to do with hardware and more to do with where their ambitions lie.

It does seem to come across as a second thought for MS to invest heavily in stella production values for their first party products. Probably because their main focus has been everything Kinect.

I think it's pretty unfair to say Fable 2 looked like an xbox 1 game though - which ofcourse it didnt. Fable 2 was actually quite a pretty game.. and certainly visuals out classing the likes of White Knight, folklore ect.. exclusive to sony's machine around the same time.

It is frustrating though, as the 360 is still more than capable of matching anything visually the ps3 produces. Alan Wake being a prime example.. which, imo, easily stands up against Uncharted 2.. and becomes the better looking game as a whole (though Uncharted 2 is in a different league with animation)

This just looks rushed. And i agree with Korndog that the obsession with streamlining games these days is getting too much.... although to be fair, Fable 2's menu system was a laggy mess.

It says something when a sequel to Two Worlds has my interest more than a new edition to the critically acclaimed Fable.

The difference between Folklore/WKC and Fable is that Fable is a first party title. It's simply really bizarre how little MS seem to care about it.

Alan Wake does a lot of funky resolution stuff and cuts a lot of corners and certainly isn't on the level of Uncharted 2 technically in any way, but it is the most evocative of that brand of care put into the presentation. I think it's obvious enough that the PS3 is pulling ahead, hardware wise, but that's no consolation when so few 360 games are even visibly trying.

Alan wake may be a lower resolution but it also demonstrates a far more open world, with a far better draw distance because of it. And demonstrates better physics. Each game engines show their strengths and weakness's. And imo it's the better looking game..regardless of resolution.

I disagree, I think UC2 trashes it in every regard, visually.

Alan Wake certainly plays to its strengths and within its framework it's wildly successful and a truly stunning game, but there really is no contest if you put them side by side. Especially the second half of UC2 is absolutely mind boggling, but even the first half displays a maticulous attention to detail, effortlessly vast vistas, incredible sharpness and post processing effects that Alan Wake really doesn't keep up with at all.

I see what you mean, but what you're literally saying I disagree with.

agree to disagree then. I'm actually currently playing Uncharted 2 (at the part where that german guy gets kidnapped for the dagger), and completed Alan Wake at the weekend. So i was pretty much playing them side by side..and Alan Wake just impressed me the most visually. It's not the better game.. and it's not the best looking console game (thats GOW3 imo), but it's stunning looking and easily "keeps up" with what i've seen in Uncharted 2 so far.

I gotta agree that UC2 looks much better( just got done playing through it again) than AW. The only thing Wake does better, IMO is in it's atmospherics, which are incredible. Naughty Dog is king when it comes to Engines, I think, although Gears 3 looks to be giving it a run for it's money.
What's so great about UC2 is that it doesn't hide behind post processing effects. I love how much PPEs effect the immersion though.

The environments in UC2 looks great but the characters look terrible. They look incredibly plasticky and have these messed up zombie eyes/faces. I mean, that Chloe chick i guess is supposed to be hot? i just go "Kill it! Kill it with fire!" every time i see her :P

Aditionally i think the original zbrush sculpts and renders look pretty good.

Yeah I mean don't get me wrong, I think Alan Wake is a really really good looking game, and the stuff it does visually are more overtly "striking" - which is why I understand the stance that you prefer it visually. It has a lot of dramatic lighting effects and fog and a ton of moody bits, but Uncharted 2 sorta just effortlessly goes all over the place with that stuff. It has a broader palette of "looks", and it's more confident in displaying it all with pin sharp image quality and without putting a lot of "heavy" effect making on top of it.

edit: While the eyes look funky, characters looking "terrible" is a totally ludicrous notion. The internet wouldn't be recognizable if the full spectrum of adjectives were used though I suppose.

MS are out to maximise their profit and nothing else right now. Crackdown 2 didn't get more dev time and money. Fable 3 looks hideous and Kinect will sell for 150 bucks.

It's the big cash-in before the generation ends. In case of Kinect it's testing the waters for the next generation without risking a huge investment. Reach will be the last game I'll buy from MS. I'd really like to see MS destroy their own business with that, but I know the world doesn't work like that.

Viginti: Why would you want a perfectly good company to go under? MS and the 360 has done great this generation. Sure, i think Sony has had a better 2010 but for fucks sake, the 360 still isn't doing so bad that it needs to go away :P

Simon: I think they look pretty weird in the game. Anything but natural. It bugged me incredibly in the first game as well. Nates green stubble doesn't help either mind you :P

Huh, better 2010? You mean first party? Sony always had the better titles this gen, with the exception of Halo 3. I'm a 360 owner only, I surely don't want it to go away before I buy another console (which won't happen until the next generation arrives). I love it, it doesn't stop me loathing MS, though.

MS is obviously not interested in pouring money into their first party titles. They sold Bungie and shut down Ensemble. Rare and Lionhead haven't made any good games in years. You see a pattern? Fable 3 is basically scrapping together what's left and wrapping it into a new package - and it looks just like that.

And what does it say about the ambition behind the game when even Molyneux isn't fantasising about it? Yeah right, fuck 'em!

I think it is 90% the eyes, and 10% the skin shaders( although at times, the skin looks incredible=mixed bag somehow). The reflectivity on the eyes is stupidly over-done. That, and they over-did the eyes "edge color"(not sure how to describe that one)...
