really lookin forward to this one
But... still not over joyed that its the same islands as the last one, and that the visuals look basically the same as that almost 4yr old game.
Need to see more
The original crackdown was inovative and released during an era that people could condone this graphic style.
However this one looks exactly like the first both in gameplay and art direction, with the difference that it will come out in 2010...

All the complaints about the graphics, all the complaints about the art direction not working for "modern games", and Borderlands still turns out to be the 3rd hottest selling game this holiday season (surpassed only by Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2), leaving all the naysayers and fearmongers who have been complaining about it's art direction since Gearbox changed it, eating a year's worth of crow.
My point? As has been proven with hits like last year's Prince of Persia, and Mirror's Edge, or this year's Street Fighter IV, or Borderlands, and a whole host of other games that have released this gen with unique art directions and gone on to be successful, there is no one art style the gamers will "condone" so long as the game behind the art style actually plays good. Where children get off with the idea that if a game looks different from every other game out there = that said game is automatically going to suck or fail or both - I just don't get it.
Fact of the matter is, you could make a game that looked like a Salvador Dali painting or a Pablo Picasso painting, and it would still work out fine, so long as the underlying gameplay and story meshed well. Hell, we already have a game on PS3 that looks like an M.C. Escher lithograph, and not only did it sell well, but racked up a shitload of awards to boot.
There is no one art style or art direction that every game must fit into to be "condoned" by the gaming community at large. I really wish gamers would just grow up and get over that fact, because it really gets old seeing it print every time a new game comes up that has a different look from the rest of the pack.
Thumbs up!!!
And I agree completly!!!
Either that or you didn't understand my reasoning so i ll try to make my self more clear.
Crackdown did have one of the most ugly art directions of this generation unlike bordelands and the helluva more artistically attractive PoP.
However it received a decent reception from the gamers mostly because of its innovative core gameplay and scope (for an early 2007 game).
Now it is coming again with more or less the same gameplay mechanics and and the same unimaginative and ugly art design.
In fact in some particular departements, like the design of the main characters, it looks more sterille than the first one.
Now if by good sales you mean that it can sell 800k copies in a demographic of 40 to 45 million gamers then yes it may enjoy some decent sales...
