PC Xbox 360 PS3

Codemasters and Blue Omega Entertainment have just spread the red carpet for their latest production, Damnation, to be offered on PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Looks like Van Helsing meets Heavenly Sword minus the high quality. The game is open-ended and it will be possible to create our own strategies to complete the various levels. Developers are saying each one of them can take up to three hours to finish (!). You'll all be damned this Winter.

Official press release :

Tuesday, 6th March 2008 – 2pm UK – Codemasters®, a leading video game publisher, and US creative studio Blue Omega Entertainment today announced Damnation™, a new videogame franchise set to come leaping onto the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows® this winter.
Evolving the shooter genre with its unique and exhilarating combination of fluid action and combat, Damnation will feature huge, open environments, frenetic combat, daredevil acrobatics and high-octane vehicle-based stunts. Presenting players with an intense test of reflexes, quick thinking and rapid-fire conflict, Damnation will feature vast, breathtaking landscapes, each covering miles of distance and thousands of vertical feet.
Billed as a 'shooter gone vertical' and visually inspired by iconic elements of American history, these massive streaming landscapes will form the battlegrounds for a post-industrial conflict between humanity and an unstoppable arms dealer hell-bent on total world domination.
Players will be able to choose their own paths and navigate the world by performing daredevil feats on the edge of human ability. However players aren't the only ones with mind-blowing acrobatic skills; intelligent enemies will give chase and engage players in frantic gun fights and attacks that can come from any direction – in Damnation's world there's no safe place to hide.
With up to three hours of actual gameplay stretching out in front of them per level, players will need more than just muscle power to get across each level safely. Damnation will offer players a selection of awe-inspiring vehicles, from motorbikes capable of launching across seemingly infinite chasms, to huge, armour-piercing marvels that will induce mayhem with every huge shell.
The high action will be supported with an epic and in-depth story which, while focusing on the exploits of the hero character Rourke, is truly an ensemble piece. Players will meet and become involved in intricate story plots that reveal much more than the obvious.
In addition to the single player experience, Damnation comes complete with a unique set of multiplayer options that take full advantage of the game's expansive levels. Currently in development at Blue Omega's facilities in Annapolis, USA, Damnation will be available for Xbox 360, the PLAYSTATION 3 system and Games for Windows in late 2008. Looks like Dark Watch meets Unreal meets Shadow Run to me. Meh, I'm weird that way. And I'm sure Jack Thompson loves the title. Anybody want to make a wager that it'll be changed before it releases?

MORE LIKE HUNTER MEETS... er.... THOSE GAMES.

I think we can all agree it's a giant meeting thingy.

Speaking of Hunter though, I miss Hunter. :| Marvel: Ultimate Alliance was really cool but it wasn't the same. It wasn't preacher guy with sword and crossbow.

looking at the landscape it could be a GoW/UT3 Spinoff.... the UE3 sucks :P
...

Nah of course it doesnt suck, but why the heck look almost all games using this engine the same... it almost seems like they all use the same CG artists...

It has two emergency access flaps that release flash bangs, stunning the enemies where they stand, causing paralysis and excessive drooling.

My initial news was comparing it with GOW, but I changed it back to Heavenly Sword, which seems even more fitting.

Graphics look decent. Gameplay might be too. But why the whore? I know VG main characters are usually designed to look good, especially the female ones... even show a lot of skin. But seriously, this is overdoing it a bit.

The 3rd shot really has that Unreal Engine 3 look.

1. Cliffside that shines for some reason.
2. Grey fog.
3. Ugly aliasy water (while the rest of the bullshot has like 16xAA)
4. Trees and shrubs with overdark leaves.

What is it with UE3 that always has these ugly flaws?

Looks pretty unique, you guys are hilarious with the comparisons, just clutching at straws. Bike up the wall? Hope that's part of the gameplay! Looks so promising, in terms of gameplay.

What's up with the "minus the high quality"? No need for propaganda, dude.

Getting seriously sick of UE3 games.
It's because of the art direction, not the engine. It does look like a blatant ripoff of gears visually though.

I just can't get excited about a game that looks so utterly ridiculous. I don't if I should laugh, cry or barf at those character designs. Looks kind of like Timeshift, before the makeover.

edit
Just took a look at some old Timeshift screens, and well, Damnation doesn't look THAT bad. Sweet jesus that game was hideous.

Graphically it looks nice and solid, but it has some of the worst goddamn design i have ever seen the guy looks like a gay futuristic indiana jones the girl is a generic big tit/minimal clothes type deal with a tramp stamp added for extra sluttyness and let's not even mention the enemies.......

Turning Point is the worst game I've played in a long time. I trust nothing that comes from Codemasters at all now. They should not be allowed to publish or develop games anymore.

Instead of calling this a combination of certain games, why not just call it (dare I say) unique?
