Developer Diary Xbox 360 PS3

Electronic Arts released this new developer diary about Dante's Inferno's seventh circle: Violence. Considering how gory this game can be, it's quite a sight.

it looks exellent, its a must buy for me, if the game is long enough, that's the only game, that can get close to GOW on xbox360.

I know, Its been said before. Its a God of War clone. The fact alone does not bother me. What bothers me is how shamelessly its ripped from GOW. I mean, this trailer shows exactly the same core gameplay mechanics as are in GOW. I know, youre all gonna name me a hater, who does not appreciate a good game based on another. But this almost feels like stealing.

game looks like total ass. I don't know what the hell EA was thinking, God of War games don't even sell that well. I remember God of War 1 on PS2 did like 500K the first month and Jaffe was unhappy about that....God of War 2 did similar numbers and recently the God of War Collection did only 100K.

These games are a dying breed. BAIL OUT!

I second that question.

I found the demo fun(despite the constant tutorial pop-ups), the gameplay tight, and the visuals appealing.

I loved God of War, and I loved Dead Space, so it only makes sense that I'd love a God of War clone made by the makers of Dead Space. I'll probably pick this up(or definitely rent it depending on game length and extra modes, etc...).

I'm not a big fan of the genre but I had a lot of fun with the demo so I'll rent the game for sure. I also thought the graphics were pretty decent, especially for 60fps with no drops in rate.

GoW3 it's not, but it's still a fun game, especially for those that only have a 360. Soo many games coming out in 2010 I have no idea where I'm gonna find the time.

And god of war is a Rygar-Berserk-Shen Mue (QTE)-Devil may Cry - Onimusha - The Mark of Kri - clone so its supossed to be crap ?
God make your homeworks before talking such nonsense. God of War did not invent the genre it just mixed it in the games own way. ( btw NG was always much much much better )

I honestly think that amidst all other action games of this style God of War still has a pretty distinct flavor, something that Dante's Inferno doesn't have. DMC, Ninja Gaiden, Onimusha and God of War all did their own thing while Dante really looks like a copy of God of War. Right down to the titties and badassery they are trying to copy it. Doesn't mean it's a bad game though.

Looks nice, I appreciate the whole use of classic literature to inspire the game's premise and it looks like it plays very well. Dead Space was also very derivative in many aspects but it was still a great game.

Games always steal from each other and the truth is that many of what are considered to be the greatest games have borrowed a great deal of their ideas from elsewhere. True originality in the majority of genres is not actually what anyone really wants if they try hard to be honest about it.

Anything that takes some form of creation is going to pull from multiple sources. However, even though inspired by other entities, it should still have its own identity. After watching and playing the demo, Dante's Inferno clearly doesn't have that.

Yes GOW took inspiration from as many games as you mentioned. I say inspiration, because seriously, Onimusha??? The action flow in onimusha series is nowhere near GOW. GOW took pieces from here and there, put it together. But Dante is clearly cloning the GOW only. Every aspect of the gameplay ive seen so far is taken directly and only from GOW. Similar thing you can see in Quantum Theory. Its a direct Gears clone. Big men, big guns, sticky cover system, cash. I mean Its not a bad thing if Dante turns out to be a good game. But it feels like a simple cash clone too much for my taste. It doesnt have its own feeling. GOW certainly does.

Well the story, playing this epic of literature ( honestly i hated it when i was forced to read the poem in school) is more than enough " own feeling" for me. The setting will be one of the most epic so far ... my guts are telling me and mostly i am not dissapointed when i have a good feeling about a game.
Somehow i knew that Bayonetta would be the best action game this generation so far ( Box version of cause)

Leonidas:
Only the game doesn't really seem to have much in common with the divine comedy other than the levels of hell :P At least last i checked Dante wasn't a badass muthafu**ah who killed DEATH and romped through hell possibly killing the goddamn devil at the end to save his buxomous wife ;) Sure you can see the references but i think calling it "based on" is just wrong, as opposed to "incredibly loosely inspired by" which i think is a way more fitting phrasing of it.

Sure the game has it's own identity purely graphically (well, i'd say that's somewhat dubious as well as Hades springs to mind instantly) but the way the game works is just a straight clone of GoW with hardly any changes at all. You could replace Dante with Kratos and call it "God of war 4: Kratos goes to hell" and the only general complaint you'd hear would be that the gfx sucks :P

i played the ps3 demo, so i have no clue how the 360 ver. is like, but damn. im surprised by the comments. the game feels so cheap. you can tell that they were inspired by god of war, but cmon! this an all time low. control felt stiff and graphics felt cheap. did they even play their own game? oh wait. its ea. *buurrnnn!!*

1. Not everyone has a playstation.
2. Everyone loves hack n slash games, if they are done well.
3. Hence, there's still as much room for this genre as there is for the FPS genre.
4. Profit!!!??!?

The point is, i never played god of war, but i do know that god of war itself is an evolution of the game Knights of the Temple, which was the first true third person hack n slash (light and heavy attack control style) game i ever played.
(dont bring the ninja gaiden games into this, they are different)

This game, being set partly in the Templar age, reminds me far more of Knights of the Temple than God of War. In the feel of the controls too, it feels very similar.
Its a bit like Halo fanboys who thought Halo was the first FPS ever made.

Play God of War then come back and try to claim that Dante's inferno isn't a complete copy of that very recipe.

God of war is a totally different story than KotT and if you think that a crap game like that spawned third person action games i suggest you educate yourself. And why not mention Ninja Gaiden? That game is a shining example of what a great third person combat game is all about. But hey, I'd also like to mention the DMC series and even Shinobi on the PS2 as great third person action games while KotT deserves no mention at all. If that is your only reference i suggest you play some of the competition or clam it.

Wtf? I don't even understand how people can say that Dante's Inferno isn't a blatant copy of GoW. You guys do know that you can acknowledge the similarities and STILL look forward to and enjoy Dante's Inferno, right?

I don't think people know that at all. Being similar to something else has a bad ring to it for most people.
