Dark Souls II will hit Steam in a few hours and as you noticed the port seems good this time. Launch trailer inside.

This is my first DS experience. I love it so far. Nice challenge but yet you keep coming back for more. The gameplay is fun and the Durante patch is already available for this and looks good.

And this is arguably the worst entry in the series so far, so i'd certainly recommend going back to Demon's Souls and Dark Souls if you like this.

The PC version is good though. Looks a lot better, constant 60 FPS and 1080p. A clear step up form the atrocious PS3 version.

Agree on that one, both previous entries are far superior to this one. Lots of resused skins, uninspired and oftentimes nonsensical level design, lack of lore connections, memorable npcs and most importantly RING OF LIFE PROTECTION which alone ruined whole Dark Souls iconic difficulty.

Yeah, never lose your souls ever again!

I also think that enemies and their placement, and general level design is way suckier in DS2. I mean, i'm not gonna put any spoilers in here but there are a few areas that are just a complete DRAG to play. The challenge is just resisting the tedium and persevering, no skill required. Way fewer cool bosses as well. Most of em are just dudes in various types of armor. Where is my Gaping Dragon craziness?

I guess I'm glad that I haven't played the first Dark Souls and probably won't because I'm having a lot of fun with this one. It's quite addicting and I can't stop playing.

My brother had quite an addiction to the first one and knew it inside and out, and he still thinks this one is much better. Plus I see a lot of great reviews for it. I guess player's opinions can be like game reviews. They just don't apply to everyone.

I don't know, seems like the majority of the hard core fans prefer Demon's and Dark souls to this. Not saying it's a bad game, it's just not as great as the previous ones. Though obviously this is just me extrapolating form videos and forum posts i've seen.

The PvP is a huge improvement though, that's one of the things they got right this time.

Wait a minute, so this ring doesn't work like the ring of sacrifice? I've never used it and haven't read anything about the game to not spoil the fun, but I was sure it was a one time only deal and then the ring breaks forever, like the ring of sacrifice.

If only it worked that way. You can repair it for 3000 souls and acquire up to 3 rings in one playthrough making any tension & challenge nonexistent.

That's kinda sad to hear, but I'm having a lot of fun with the game (I've waited for the PC version this time) and my dual wielding character (no shield, just rolling) and I'm sure as hell not gonna use such a cheap ass ring.

Seeing how the Effigies work, you hardly even need the ring anyway.

And how do they work? I thought they're like the stone of ephemeral eyes from Demon's Souls.

Well just pop one before a boss or a tough area and bam, good to go. I liked that you had to play through the area without dying to get summons in DS1 (and i mean, summons are easy mode). Also the rate at which you get the effigies mean that at least i can use em pretty freely just to get my HP bar fixed and still have plenty to spare.

I don't know, the entire game just feels kinda tuned down to accommodate newbies. I guess Demon's was just generally more punishing, even with the stones.

The game also feels like it's very inviting when it comes to summoning and co-op. I don't like it, but on some bosses at least i pretty much need a second player or an NPC to make the battle possible. I couldn't even imagine beating the Ruin Sentinels with a dex build, going in solo. And i've played Dark Souls to death.

I generally tend not to use too many consumables. I depend almost entirely on estus and I ALWAYS play completely alone on my first playthrough. I could see that the sentinels were made to be tackled in co-op, but I still beat them solo, hollowed, with a dual wield dex build on sl 56, I'm also in the company of champions covenant, so it was even tougher. Maybe the game offers many ways to make it easier, but I just don't accept or use them and I'm having a blast.
