GSY Video Xbox One

We've been invited last week by Microsoft to check some of the launch titles of the Xbox One. We had many technical issues with the footage from the event, but we managed to more or less have some of them being watchable. So let's start with Dead Rising 3, since we never managed to get any videos from this game before. Don't expect great quality, and there is no sound.
Update: Added a second gameplay video.

I liked the music in the malls in DR2, I hope they hire the same music composer.

I really like the darker tone of this game, I can see this being a great co op time sink. Hopefully they find ways of keeping it from feeling too much like a grind.

This. I'm sure they changed it because some market analysis spreadsheet said, "gritty is in! All the kidz are doin' it!"

But I liked the colourful camp of the old ones.

I'll still keep an eye out on this, though... since... well... massive amounts of zombies!

Framerate is very smooth, much much better than at GC.

You should know that motion flow was activated on the TV.

I'm fairly sure that the tonal change had to do with the fact that they'd more to work with and show off as a result. They could add more detail, play with new lighting etc. I think that dictated the design rather than a demographic. I prefer it like this. It still hasn't lost the campy vibe of the first two either. Anyway, it needed a fresh look to separate itself.

The jump in visuals to next gen this time is the smallest ever by far. Hard to believe after 8 years. Very disappointing.

Hmmm ok. I assume that is an option on LCD screens? Still, there have been reports that the framerate was much better. I remember multiple videos from a event after GC that showed it. Well....we'll soon find out.

As for people saying this doesn't look all that special. I can see why you say that, but still....fire up Dead Rising 2 and see the big difference.

I know that and I really hope it's true as DR3 is probably the only exclusive I'm interested on on Xbox One. That being said, many games are now presented on LCD screens with Motion Flow activated. Even Beyond last summer at Gamescom was shown that way, which could make some believe that the game was 60 fps. I think it's a shame.

I agree with you, most of us are tired of last gen graphics, and this is why I'm not that interested to get the new consoles, I will wait 2-3 years, I don't know why MS and Sony decided to release weak consoles, maybe influnced by the Wii and motion controllers? but motion control was a fad.

I think the graphics look very good and I like how much action is on screen, but personally I don't think I would enjoy playing this game for more than 15 minutes because the regular enemies don't seem to pose any kind of threat.

@AnthonM2)
Releasing much more technically advanced consoles just wouldn't be feasible, because the majority of console buyers won't pay more than $400 for that and a console that isn't profitable after 1 or 2 sold games is just not good business.

yes but most of the next gen games that are out at launch and in the launch window look far far better than last/current gen which is obvious lol

look at killzone it looks years ahead of any shooter on last/current gen even killzone 2 and 3 which still look great

Some of you are off your rocker, seriously. These consoles are not weak or dated at all. It's just getting more demanding to produce significant jumps in the development. There's only so much you can do with a diffuse texture. Ditto with a normal map or any other mapping, and lighting in games was already almost at the apex. Save for methods like Global Illumination or even a final gather solution(won't happen), you are not going to get much better in online raster based lighting until we get consoles capable of ray tracing, which will be a very long wait. It's all about performance now, and dynamics. There's also an emphasis on better materials, which is important to how light behaves for indirect lighting, an area where some of the visual jumps will come from in time. We won't get the full productivity of these systems until devs move away from current gen and start concentrating on building brand new engines from the ground up to work with these consoles, not scalable ones like we've got currently. Then you've got money issues. Just look at the production of Ryse. It's almost the same kind of production for a big budget Hollywood VFX. There will be devs out there that just won't have access to that kind of development.

If MS and Sony didn't waste money on enhancing the stupid Kinect and Move they can affored to release more powerful consoles at $400, both companies are clueless.

No joke. being able utilize materials alone is a jump in my book. Getting SSS or being able to differentiate from wool and rubber based on how it interacts with the lighting will be a nice start( although this gen has gotten close, which I guess is the issue). Atmospherics and post effects go a long way too. So much has at least been touched on my this current generation.

I actually saw an Nvidia demo of realtime raytracing, but it was "just" a glass box with fluid in it. Impressive but hardly capable of being done on a full game scale. There are some interesting things coming that have to do with "faking" raytracing coming down that have ties to what MS has done with the X1 architecture and DX11.2+. There are also things using Open GL coming down. Check out the brigade2 engine. I wouldn't be surprised to see some Raytracing this generation...

Just looking at what Crytek is doing with Ryse or Guerrilla are doing with Killzone and not see that these machines are going to be great. Stop comparing their specs to PCs. They are not the same...
