#DRIVE Rally has not convinced us at all, but the good news is that it will hit early access tomorrow, so there's still much room (and time) for improvement. For starters, we don't understand why the devs would punish players for barely touching the barrier tape by giving them a time penalty when they're not even cutting corners. Sometimes, hitting a solid barrier and losing time gets you a penalty. It makes the game very frustrating, almost forcing you to turn very slowly each time to make sure you don't touch anything. Also, for now, there is absolutely no difference in grip when going from gravel to asphalt and the lack of rumble in the controller means the sensations are poorer than they should. Last but not least, the cars do not seem to drift much, even when using the handbrake. More powerful vehicles seem better in that regard, but it still does not feel satisfying enough compared to arcade or simcade rally games out there. We like the visuals though, as well as the number of stages, which is quite high. There are only four different destinations but more then twenty stages in each so when gameplay is improved, the game should keep players busy for a while.
Note: Gameplay is really smooth for us but the menus in the career mode are particularly choppy. It's not that big of a deal but it is as surprising as it is inexplicable.
