Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge drops a demo today on Xbox Live and PSN. It features two seperate stages for the playable characters (Ruy and Ayane). Tecmo also notes that "skilled" players can unlock Kasumi in the demo. Get a look at it inside. The game launches on April 2.

I cant wait to download it on PS3 today, i hope they fixed the controls and framerate this time, atleast better than original one.
Also, i am guarenteed to unlock Kasumi since i am a vet, so i look forward to her.
Lol! Beaten by 11 seconds. Damned Ninjas...
Looking forward to trying this out, hopefully the improvements aren't just cosmetic and there is a real sense of fluidity.
Btw, Gamersyde? Who is Ruy and why do I want to play as this character alongside Ayane?

But then again, i play like a damn beast in NG games so vet isnt right either :P
Ruy? = Ryu (they mispelled it probably).
XBL is random upload so just wait in there.
Time to download this, impressions later.
The main menu options are now horizontal
Pros:
- Gore is back and its great!
- Great to see other weapons back again like dual sword (so good! though Lunar and Kusari gama isnt in it)
- Menu doesnt look like shit now
- You can upgrade your skills and weapons and ninpo anytime you want as long as you got Karma to spend which is good.
- You can play any character on any level, its not like NGS2 were you are restricted which is very nice now.
- Framerate is good too, no big issue for me.
- Steel on bone mechanic is re-done now, it seems it works on specific moments and not random like the original (well comment more on this one).
- Controls are better than original, its a bit more responsive (read cons)
Cons:
Even though controls are better now, i still had a feeling that it wasent enough compared to previous titles. It seems there is a pause animation that doesnt allow me to be quick during blocks+dodge, counter attacks, flying swallow, guillotine throw, ninpo right after you attack (sometimes), shadow step were you hop on enemies head.
I dont know it may be just me but its not responsive to super quick reflexes sometimes, though it is better than the original for sure.
Now the steel on bone, it is not random as before, it seems there is a specific moment that can be done by pressing the heavy attack. You instantly know when you do it compared to the OT since the move slows down and gets upclose you gotta press twice to finish it, once you do, any attack that hits another enemy will be the same until you miss so you can chain them up (like the original).
Now my theory is if a enemy does a special attack (no bosses) if you dodge out and dodge in to do a heavy attack it activates it, i may be wrong and if someone has a better idea how it works please tell me.
Now I completed Normal, beat Hard but only up to Ryu's section, but Ayane's last fight with the 3 sword hooded enemies, my god it pisses me off!
Its almost impossible for me to beat those fuckers, sure you can spam the UT since it only needs one charge but her UT doesnt cover distance, just a stupid circle compared to Ryu.
I just need to beat those 3 guys to unlock Kasumi, and since its NG, it will be done.
Though I know this, its absolutely satistfying to dismember those enemies since they are the worse enemies and cheapest of them all in NG3.
All in all, its more fun than the original as I predicted, its basically NG3 combat but with NG2 dismemberment and weapons/ninpo and some tweaked moves here and there. It is definitely fun for sure, enjoyed it.
PS. I am glad the demo allows us to keep playing chapter challenge and on all 3 characters all we want and keep ranking up karma and unlock everything including costumes. Cant wait to unlock Ryu's blue Ryuken :D
It's better than Ninja Gaiden 3 because they basically released Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 with tweaks, returned everything that Itagaki implemented and then slapped Razor's Edge on the end?
Has this game made ANY progression since Sigma 2 besides the inclusion of Kasumi?
No sign of the demo on the Marketplace and cannot be bothered to hook up the PS3 to download. Guess I'll wait.
And yes its a tweaked title its still called Ninja Gaiden 3 not 4 i dont know what you expect.
They did return the same ninpos, weapons and the dismemberment that Itagaki did and combined with their own mechanics into it, so its merged. Though they did keep their own animations and not the ones Itagaki did (though there is very slight returns but majority is all new).
Only true thing tbh is that you can now unlock and upgrade at any point in the game as long as you got karma, swap outfits in the game without the need to restart the misson, the steel on bone is tweaked, you can play any character on any level that other characters played (basically alternate routes) and they added the 360 shuriken throw for Ryu and cicada surge is new and the ability to heal yourself by expense of ninpo energy.
Playing it further today i think I figured out how the steel on bone is activated. When enemies have that red glow for strong attack, if you quickly hold strong attack and then release right before they attack you go into SoB and can chain it.
Finally beat it on Hard with Ayane!

Ninja Gaiden 3 was such a regression for the series that it played worse than 90% of relevant hack n' slash games out there and was an even further pilgrimage in the opposite direction of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.
I'm not an idiot, I wasn't expecting an entirely new game, I was merely pointing out the fact that (in laymen's terms):
- NG3 was utter crap.
- Razor's Edge comes out with all the stuff that made NGS2 enjoyable with what can only really be described as tweaks and the equivalent (sans locations) of DLC content.
Which lead me to ask:
Until they do something remotely substantial with the series and prove they can do something with Ninja Gaiden without the crutch of Itagaki's back catalogue, I'll forever call them Tweak Ninja and that saddens me. :(
Still can't wait to download it and see if I can return to this series. It's not releasing at full RRP, so, if it's more than bearable? I may buy it.
For me the progression from sigma 2 to this is quite medium, not a leap. But enough enjoyment and new combos and animation and my love for steel on bone is the most fantastic mechanic in hack and slash for me so I say yes, it has made an progression enough from Sigma 2. But again thats a personal preference ever since i saw videos from Wii U version so I know exactly what to expect, nothing more nothing less.
Demo is taking too long on the marketplace to become available. May have to plug the PS3 in and play on that eurgh controller.
Explain to me what you mean with "my love for everything Ninja Gaiden?"
Well, demo is up on Marketplace, going to try and download it now. Let's see what this bad boy is about.
I said NG3 RE is better than NG3 and i said why i think that end of story.
Demo is up on MarketPlace, but for some reason (like all the demos I actually WANT to play) it has it up, but when you click on the demo it reads that there is a problem with the Marketplace.
I'll play some ME3 multiplayer and then try again.
Three important things to master that feature :D
1.) They can only be triggered with the heavy attack button (in NG3 both attack buttons activated them..which was just baaaad)
2.) They act a counter attack now
3.) you have to wait for a specific attack. These attacks have a glow, kinda like the bright red glow which appeared when enemies tried to grab you in NG3, but the attacks which can be SoBd will glow a bit darker, in a black-red glow. It's good to see, don't worry.
An exampel are the Tac-Ninja in Ayanes chapter, right before you have to fight the 3 sword-alchemist dudes. The Tac Ninjas have a certain throw animation when they jump from a bit far away right into your face and knock you down. Before this specific throw, you can see the dark-red glowing. That's the moment when you can press the heavy attack button to SOBs and insta-kill them.
Of course, not every single enemy throw/grab can be countered. The Alchemists are immune to that. You can see that on the typical bright-red glowing during their grabs. This counts for all enemies with that kind of glowing.
Some enemies have more than one throw/grab and it is possible that one grab/throw can be punished with a SOB, and the other one not. Of course it's not random and doesn't change. So you can "learn" the animations and remember which one it is. Or you just look after the glow, lol
And the last important thing is, that some grabs/throws have a short, or not so short, charge time, which makes it possible to SOB some enemies BEFORE the actual grab/throw. But some are so fast, you can only SOB them after the attack.
SO instead of UT spamming for high scores, the game now rewards you for risky decisions. An SOBs triggers a karma multiplier which can be increased with some other actions of yours.
Hope that helps, lol
P.S. The counter attack skill is not necessary for using the SoB system :)
