Xbox 360 PS3

Volition and THQ released the first developer diary of Red Faction: Guerrilla, a mindless but rather fun game if the demo is any indication. The video cuts before the end, I'll upload a fixed version when I find one.

Looks descent, but I saw quite a bit of tearing. I don't think there should be much at all, judging from the video, the graphics don't look caliber enough to tax the hardware of the 360 or PS3. As long as its graphics are clean, fun gameplay, great story telling, and non repetitively paced; I'm in.

it's visuals as a whole may not look great, but the destruction is pretty damn taxing on both systems. it's no wonder they had to give up v-sync.

Well either you have a high framerate (tearing) with occational framerate drops, or a low general framerate with vsync (since vsync can often have a dramatic effect on framerate, lowering it well below the monitor sync rate its intended to match).

I'd rather have a bit of tearing than a subpar framerate.
Tearing isnt a bad thing, it indicates that the framerate is so high that your screen cant keep up. They should just add more "stuff" to the scene to even it out.

baleur - that is not the case. Screen tearing is not because the TV or monitor can't keep up. Remember most new tv set have 100hz updates and even now 200hz, so the problem lies not with the TV.

Screen tearing happens when the device output is out of sync with the TV - ie. a frame is being rendered while still showing the previous frame.

I like the fact that everything is destructible. what make it look a little off, is the way somethings react to newton's law.
some colissions look more like cardboard maquettes being teared apart because someone is forcing the car againt the building, than true physics reaction.
like a kid playing with a lego/k-nex models.

Its a bit wierd though that there is no terrain deformation, which was the big thing of the first Red Faction game (where you dug tunnles and stuff).

I have yet to see some intersting locals in this game, so far it's all generic buildings and dust.

It kind of makes the destruction, well...not impressive at all.
