Among DOOM, DOOM II, DOOM 3 and DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil, DOOM 3 BFG Edition features the Lost Missions, shown in this trailer, which are eight new levels. The game is out on October 16th. Update: Screenshots added.
LOL Korndog. This seems like a complete waste of a disc. Something this old should be an xbla/psn game. IMO the game was overrated at launch because of its horribly repetitive levels and bland gameplay. Nothing has changed and even the graphics pretty much look the same from what I am seeing. Also shame on the R&D at not being able to have a flashlight on a gun far into the future.

1) They changed the flashlight mechanic.
2) There is a ton of new content.
3) The original flashlight mechanic was the only thing interesting about this game.
4) Shame on gamers for thinking that realism is the goal of game design.
the original flashlight mechanic might have been a goo IDEA but they executed it horribly in the game imo. So many encounters were just incredibly frustrating because you couldn't fight back in any good way.
That has nothing to do with realism but just being logical. They try to make these modern games with in depth back stories and their visions of the future but they put something dumb like that in a game. I feel that dead space was way scarier than doom 3 every was and they didnt have a light "GIMMICK." I think that the idea of finding batteries would make more sense. It's like making a serious sci-fi movie with people out in space without a space suit just because they can do it.
If we are talking realism i'd assume that they'd have room temperature superconductors in the future, and sweet ass batteries. You'd probably have to change the batteries like once in a lifetime :P

I still think it's ridiculous that you have to make sense of it.

Sure.. but wasn't that the point? They'd drop you in total darkness and give you the choice between seeing and fighting back. It was supposed to create really tense and frustrating encounters. I think it worked.
It's a flawed concept maybe, but it's basically the only interesting thing about the game.
The point was a frustrating game? That's what i'd call shite design. I mean, if they balanced it so that the flashlight made it feel tense and you had to think about how you used it, then that'd be cool. But when it only ever leads to the player getting pissed off that he's pinned down behind a barrel by enemies that he can't see and hence can't shoot (while they have magic ai-vision and shoot you in the skull from 10 miles even if it's pitch black) it's NOT a good thing. Again, the idea is not bad, they just made a piss poor job of implementing it. At least thats how i see it.
It was scary, wasn't it? Still is even today, more so than most games that try and fail, so Doom 3 did it's job regardless of bad mechanics or often bland gameplay.
The biggest problem I think was that the scary aspect really was id's main focus and they weren't trying to recreate Doom like most people would have expected. I wouldn't have minded so much but the combat felt a bit shit to me as well. Maybe i was just harsh though but at the time it definitely suffered from that usual feeling of shooting paper bullets

There's also a new flashlight mechanic, since everyone is so weaksauce.
