I understand what you mean. I think id have fucked up the tone of the design here. I'd have much preferred a more atmospheric horror feel to the action with updated designs of the original demons and monsters. Just because the game has fast paced action, it doesn't mean it's Doom. The Original Doom also had slower paced gameplay with nothing going on, and then suddenly you were surrounded. That's what created the tension. If this game is just simply run and gun on linear maps, then it's missed the point.

What?
I think he's poking fun at the fact it doesn't look very nice visually.

Stylistically its missed the mark too. I was expecting an updated classic doom. Not this techno-imp shite. I mean how many enemies in doom were even cyber enhanced? 2 maybe? The doom 3 aesthetic is putting me off the game visually. Gameplay looks pretty fun though.

I agree with that. I think there were about 4 monsters, tops, that were cyber enhanced, or at least had some kind of cyber weaponry. The Revenant had shoulder cannons; Mancubus had plasma guns for arms; Cyber Demon likewise; and the Mastermind had creepy mechanical legs. You could argue that their design follows with the originals in some regard, but it's the look of the demons I don't like. They look more like aliens than what you'd imagine demons to look like, at least from a purely orthodox or religious interpretation, which the original Doom sprites had. At least in Doom 3 the zombie shotgun guy and pistol zombie resembled the originals. I'm not sure if what we see in the trailer or the gameplay video so far are intended to be those, but if they are, then they're just way off.

Help me understand here.. How does this game look bad, exactly? I cannot understand how picky some commenters can be. I understand having certain gripes with the game, but people saying that it looks like a last gen game or a smartphone game have got to be kidding. I'd like to know.. what game in your opinion looks good?

I personally don't see what the problem is here. This reminds me a lot of Doom 3, which I really enjoyed. Even the visual style is reminiscent of it. Sure, it might not be the graphical behemoth that Doom 3 was at the time (I remember fucking with config files to no end in order to get it to run on my 9700 Pro), but it is running at 60 FPS right? They could do a lot more visually by cutting the frame rate in half, but 60 FPS will be great for gameplay and MP.

This isn't id anymore. Just an empty shell, all the founding fathers left many years ago, and id is nothing without Carmack.

I dunno, I seem to be the only one that loves the look and stuff of the game.

I don't get why people aren't super stoked. It looks awesome. Doom 1 and 2 are fuckin' awesome and I think this is a good amount of the old with a lot of neat and exciting new stuff. Those freakin' close up kills and the gore and all that, with some neat new movement mechanics, it looks like a good fun time.

That is really ignorant and unfair. Carmack is a genius, and one of the few "big names" in the industry that lives up to the name. But there are a lot of other talented guys at id. Carmack didn't single handedly create every inch of those games. And these days it takes a lot more to make a game. And, this game looks awesome. Won't know till we get our hands on it but if Wolfenstein was fun this should be awesome. Especially with some kick ass music and just an open mind to enjoy blowing the shit out of some hell demons.

Despite all the hate coming towards this game, I just want to play it. Relaxing no-brainer with a lot of satisfying and veeery gory kills. Love it!!! I also like these original sounds for doors etc...
I think the original design of CyberDemon was better, but it doesn't matter.....spirit of this game is a massacre and they have already met the expectations in the E3 demo.....he he...

Game looks freaking amazing I don't under stand the dislike for it at all, can not wait to play it.

Those questioning it watch this video and tell me it is not awesome : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KApp699WdE&t=30m4...

Also if you think the graphics suck look at these direct HD screens :

I really miss the times, when people went to game store, looked at the box and said "ummm...ok...this is looking good, I will buy it.". And even if the game wasn't that awesome, the played the shit out of it. Still better than this babble about this and that and people will play it anyway.

I agree, I did that with my C64, Genesis, etc it was all about the back of the boxes and you had nothing else unless you could afford a game mag for more screens, you really had no idea how it was. Was sort of cool not knowing back then.

Yeah things are so negative now and the majority just complain about everything :( all well I love games and will continue to enjoy them regardless of what others think.
