Press release:

Hail to the King! 2K Games Announces Duke Nukem Forever® - Seriously - Flying Pigs Spotted Heading Towards Penny Arcade Expo

Legendary video game hero to finally return and kick-ass on consoles and Windows PC in 2011; playable demo at Penny Arcade Expo

Friday 3rd September/... 2K Games and Gearbox Software announced today that forever is nearly here, as Duke Nukem Forever® will officially make its long-awaited debut for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC in calendar 2011. Duke Nukem, the interactive entertainment industry’s most irreverent and quoted character of all time, will bring his signature brand of babe-lovin’, cigar-smoking, beer-chugging and ass-kicking action as he once again saves the Earth and our babes from hordes of invading aliens. In other shocking news, Duke Nukem Forever will be playable right now for all attendees 17 and older of this year’s Penny Arcade Expo at the 2K Booth (booth #3417), giving the first hands-on experience with the game that was originally announced during the tail end of the Clinton Administration.

"All great things take time... a lot of time," laughs Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "After a hiatus from the video game world, Duke Nukem is back and better than ever. The return of the King from the glory days of shooters will satisfy our patient, die-hard fans, as well as a new generation of bubble gum-chewing, flat top and shades-wearing bad-asses. Make no mistake about it - Duke Nukem Forever is a testament to the era of when shooters were bodacious and fun."

Put on your sunglasses and prepare to step into the boots of Duke Nukem, whose legend has reached epic proportions in the years since his last adventure. The alien hordes are back and only Duke can save the world, again. Pig cops, alien shrink rays and enormous alien bosses won’t stop our hero from accomplishing his one and only goal: to save the world, save the babes and to be a bad-ass while doing it. The King of All Shooters is back with over-the-top weapons, massive aliens and unprecedented levels of interactivity. This game puts pedal to the metal and tongue firmly in cheek, among other places. Shoot hoops, lift weights, read adult magazines, draw crude messages on whiteboards or ogle one of the many beautiful women that populate Duke’s life; that is if you can pull yourself away long enough from kicking ass and taking names. Duke Nukem was and will forever be immortalized in gaming history, and this is his legend.

“Hail to the king, baby! It's unbelievable, it kicks ass and it's totally going to happen!” said Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software, "Gearbox has enabled die-hard key Duke Nukem franchise builders and skilled veteran game makers to stand together and deliver. All gamers deserve a happy ending and after all of us gamers feeling the full range of emotions about Duke Nukem Forever, I am thrilled to be in a position with the trust, power and means to make it happen. Am I crazy? Balls of steel, baby, balls of steel!”

Only badass characters are allowed to have the "back against us but looking over their shoulder" pose, Duke is not one of them.

Like this guy, badass!

Badass comedian one-liner, sure.
It's amazing that something so low brow manages to go so completely over some people's heads.

Is it forbidden?

The first one was to KORNdog considering he mentioned why Duke Nuken image was black and white so I posted the Rambo poster, and I was pointing out why Duke was having the same pose as many other characters and now Duke being one of them.

Some people are either too young or take themselves too seriously to identify that Duke is a gleefully enthusiastic 80s action hero pastiche that contains more charm through its self referential wit than every modern video game action hero combined.

You're also prolly the same kind of person who didn't pick up on the half of Max Payne that was similarly noir pastiche/piss take and then went to make a movie with its head so far up its own stoic, generic arse it made Uwe Boll's Alone in The Dark seem tonally faithful.

...really? By this point i think the game must have been handed off to a new studio, right? I can't imagine that this will be anything other than a hastily cranked out, mediocre shooter when it hits. Besides, unless you are an old-school pc gamer that is primed and ready to love Duke in whatever form he comes, is this shit even really relevant anymore? I don't think throwing cash at loose women and spewing bad one-liners will have the same effect in 2011 as it did back in 96. Then again i never found Duke Nukem 3D to be all that awesome even back then, i was always more of a quake kind of guy :P

Not to say that Duke is any worse than video game heroes we have today, i just wonder how much strength the name carries nowadays.

I am 25, and I was around when NES times and all that.
Sure when I was younger and had the chance to play Duke Nuken I did, I found it...fun, but then again I was young and young guys enjoy the stuff was put in that type of game in those days.

But as I grew older and now seeing so many generic characters and all that this is boring and I dont think it will attract many people unless they remember the old days when they played it, who knows maybe it will.

Sure it has some sort of a nostolgia to it as a series that makes fans want a next gen game, but being "too serious" as a person, I know I am and I am proud of having serious type of character in my games.
This guy...too annoying. I dont even like Bayonetta as a character, nor Kratos nor Marcus Fenix...see a pattern here?

Duke isnt a badass honestly not even a "hero", even when I was a kid I thought he was looked like Arnold of video games, but when I got older and knew more, Duke is a nnoying character.

It's not about "knowing more" it's about not appreciating ironic characters.

Duke isn't generic, there's nothing else like him unless you consider parodies the same as the actual THING. He's an action hero piss take that is equal parts a tribute to the action flicks/culture of the late 80s and early 90s.

No, not really. And FWIW 25 is probably a little on the young side for this. That puts you at 11 when Duke was in his prime.
