Luminous Studio has unveiled its realtime tech demo Agni's Philosophy. Square Enix has not said if they were targeting specific platforms but that should give us an idea of how a Final Fantasy next-gen would look like. If we get our hands on a decent video, we'll update.

After checking the video, this is the most graphically impressive sequence to come out of E3..

One of the top bst graphics I seen, phenomal.

Now if they can make this happen on next gen consoles for action RPGs like Dragons Dogma or similair stuff, oh yeah!

I would love to see a Castlevania LoS type of game with this engine.

not seen the video..cant find it. The whole 'this is real time' though isnt that much of a shock is it? When they first reveal FF13 they said that was real time too..which i guess it was, but the actual game still offered static backgrounds and linear paths.

Just going by the screens at the moment but i'm not all that blown away unless they show complete control in the vid? I've just watched Beyond gameplay footage running on current gen tech and thats not a million miles away from the visual quality shown in these screens.. but ofcourse that games very orchestrated in what you can see and where you can go.

they can do graphics, no doubt, FF13 still looks great imo. but they havnt made a good game in YEARS. i dont have much hope that a fancy new engine will change that...

Right now, it's just a pretty cutscene. Square Enix has now jumped on the middle eastern Arabs as enemies bandwagon? For shame.

I don't think this a game guys, its purely a tech demo.

Personally I think this puts UE4 to shame.

Right now, it's just a pretty cutscene.
It's all in engine and it features from what I can see:

Very high quality motion blur
DX11 particle effects
Next gen real time lighting
Real time reflections
Next gen hair rendering
Next gen cloth rendering
Tessellation (since the models are super detailed)
destruction
High quality depth of field

All of which can be easily implemented and run on a DX11 card....nothing out of the ordinary here. But the thing is (like Korn said) Their actual development teams based in Japan are just terrible

The graphics are great, but if Square wants to change FF into something that looks like a western rpg than I'm not going to touch it.

Squeenix's tech demos have been pretty accurate in the past but I'm not sure about this one, at least based on the PS4 spec rumors floating around. There's just no way something based on the HD 7670 can pull this off, even crossfire'd with an APU.

As for the art direction, not a fan at all. I'll take miniskirt wearing Japanese idols over a Heavenly Sword/Uncharted knockoffs any day of the week.

If they can get me to care about characters in one of their games like they did in FF10 then they will go a long way with me.

But as KORN said, we know they can do graphics and can deliver marvels in that department but for goodness sake write a better story and characters than FF13.

.... Wha..? Beyond was no where near that... Maybe a couple of the faces (which didn't emote nearly as well in the Beyond demo), but- lighting, animation, particles, cloth sim, motion blur, scale... it pretty much crapped on any real time tech demo I've seen. That was serious, and if the next gen does pull that off... wow.

Man, just from a tech stand-point that was crazy. I don't understand how people can poo-poo that, and actually enjoy things.

Some gamers are negative to a ridiculous degree...

yea, the extreme pessimism displayed by some gamers makes me sad. This video just shows the effects their next engine is capable of. It shows that it can run every DX11 effect known to man.

Beyond is a DX9 game, probably runs at sub hd, isn't locked at 30 fps, has screen tearing...

come on bro

When it's presented as it is, its hard to be impressed. Nobody was ooohing and ahhhhing when 1313 opened with the cutscene, but the second you were in control then the monkeys were out of the cage. For this very reason I see nothing impressive here.

Even that boat sequence for AC3 of which I'm sure the illussion of control has never featured so prominantely was a greater spectacle because of the interactive perspective.

This all looks great, but as per usual, let's remember that the entire harware spec is dedicated to graphics and it's incredibly cinematic.

I think a game like The Last of Us is a great example of how a cutscene can looks stunning, then the gameplay kinda takes the edge off of that "wow!" feeling.

Still, this does look stellar, no doubt about that.

It's a tech demo. add some QTE, and you've pretty much got Beyond Two Souls, lol. They aren't showing a game, but the implications of immersion with the tech is nuts. Nothing impressive, PHAH!!!

You haven't fuckin seen UE4, other than a few low resolution screenshots, dumbass, first of all; second of all, I believe this IS Unreal Engine 4, with a post processing middleware engine thrown on top of it. That's the current thinking on the street anyway, and it looks very much like some of the Unreal stuff we know they were working on, in particular the hair and particle effects.
And when we DO see Unreal, it will be playable, it'll be an actual gameplay sequence, which is rather different than this, which was stated as being for "real time cinematic."

like i said TWICE in my post, i was going by the screens alone. Which dont show off the dynamic lighting, animation, clothes sim, motion blur, and true scale - all of which is wasted anyway if the actual game that sprouts from it is as linear as FF13 (which also looked amazing in realtime cutscenes).

I'd love to see a game like Skyrim look like that.. but i think i'll be waiting a very very long time for it
