Arkane Studios made quite an impression with Dishonored 2 and so did its sister studio baded in Austin with the reveal of PREY. The reboot is a scifi FPS that looks inspired by System Shock as information leaks suggested months ago. The title is set to release next year with more details at QuakeCon. Only the trailer images for the moment, we hope Bethesda will be able to send us the trailer in high quality soon.

BETHESDA SOFTWORKS ANNOUNCES PREY®

Renowned Team at Arkane Studios Reveal Vision for Sci-Fi Franchise

June 12, 2016 (Rockville, MD) – Bethesda Softworks®, a ZeniMax® Media company, today announced Prey, a first-person sci-fi action game from Arkane® Studios - the award-winning creators of the 2012 ‘Game of the Year’, Dishonored®. Known for their creative gameplay, distinctive worlds and immersive stories, Arkane reimagines this franchise from the ground up, with an added psychological twist. Prey is slated for release in 2017 on the Xbox One, PlayStation® 4 computer entertainment system and PC.

In Prey, you awaken aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032. You are the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever – but things have gone terribly wrong. The space station has been overrun by hostile aliens and you are now being hunted. As you dig into the dark secrets of Talos I and your own past, you must survive using the tools found on the station, your wits, weapons, and mind-bending abilities.

“At Arkane, our passion for creating unique worlds where you can improvise, experiment and play your way has driven our vision for Prey,” said Raphael Colantonio, president and co-creative director at Arkane Studios. “We’re excited to show you more of the sci-fi world we’re creating at QuakeCon this summer.”

Pre rendered trailers simply aren't enough to get me excited about things anymore. Especially when the premise seems so far removed from the original title. That first version of Prey 2 actually sounded quite cool. And seemed like a more natural progression of things from the first title. And from what I understand, those that were able to actually see that game being played behind closed doors were blown away by what they saw. So now we have this game which has what, exactly, to do with the first Prey again? Oh, it's supposedly a spiritual successor of sorts to System Shock 2... WHAT??!

This new game's pemiss doesn't seem half as interesting as the one Prey 2 had. If whoever is in charge thinks so, this new game is doomed.

Dramatic much? We barely know anything and doomed is a strong word. I personaly prefer the survival horror vibe this game has compared to the blade runner vibe prey 2 had.

Nothing to do with the original, I feel like this is a cool new IP and they had to call it Prey to cash more money ala Silent Hill 4: The Room.

In any case, I'm interested! The setting could be really cool and Arkane knows how to do good first person games.

Let me explain why I think it's "doomed". It's all just speculation, but they haven't given me much to work with.

When announcing a game, it's preferable to do so with information/footage that has some impact, not just something that warrants the comment "we know too little to judge". It's likely that they don't have any footage to show because the game's production started recently and was greenlit due to the success of Doom.

Let's assume the entire game is set within the realms of what's revealed so far.

A human experiment goes wrong in a human space station. Starring a guy in a suite with guns and special abilities.

What has that got to do with Prey? Is this just the intro into the world of Prey? Probably not as the title was rebooted. Will it contain 'Spirit Walking', portals and stuff such as changing size and walking upside down? Probably, and seeing as the studio made Dishonored before, it's likely that the abilities that one used in Prey will be used in a similarly as in Dishonored.

They ditched Prey 2 for this. A game that's likely a reimagination of elements from the original and the mentality of the latest Doom.

It's not necessarily a bad game, it's just not Prey 2. For me this is like teasing with the streets in the end of PT/Silent Hills, and then setting the entire game in a larger house.

EDIT: The only thing that makes me kind of hopeful is the glowing blue symbol.

I think they probably named it Prey because of the fact that u are being hunted in the space station and for the name recognition obviously. Also there is no way they showed this just because Doom was a success, companies plan these stuff months in advance and to put together a cgi trailer like this takes time.

to be fair though. the original concept of pray 2 wasn't much like prey either. i do like the premise of this more then the bladerunner bounty hunter thing before. for some reason it gave me half life vibes.

It's entirely fair to like this more. It's just that a lot of people (including me) really looked forward to what was promised with Prey 2. I'd be a lot more positive about this game if it had another title.

The fact that they had to use the Prey name for this new game shows that they themselves aren't confident in it enough to make it a new IP. It looks far less interesting than Prey 2.

Chris Avellone is working on this...so it's already better then what prey 2 was going to be by default.

Gave me a subtle District 9 vibe. Could have been given a new IP instead, but I don't really care as long as I get a great game.

I don't get the negativity really. I mean, sure it's named Prey, seemingly for no good reason, but the trailer gives no reason to just assume that it's bad.

But much like Korn, the bounty hunder thing that Prey 2 was supposed doesn't matter that much imo. This looks more interesting to me. Especially if Avellone is writing for it. Though, obviously i'd want to see what it plays like first.

Looks like it could be neat or even really really good. But the concept of Prey 2 needs to be explored. A really solid bounty hunter sci fi game could be really big if done well. They made that game sound really fuckin' awesome and it's clearly a concept that SOMEONE could pull off, especially a studio like Arkane.
I get why, from a business perspective, they titled this PREY but it is still a huge disappointment because it means there will never be any sort of attempt to rework the Prey 2 concept into something functional. Which is a shame because that looked like it could be a genuinely unique experience for the industry.

It's almost always better to have an existing brand. That doesn't really mean anything. They would be stupid not to do this IF they aren't going to do anything else with the IP, such as reworking Prey 2. They paid money for the IP so they are going to do stuff with it.
