Another surprise from Sony was the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Remake, a full remake of the original title released 18 years ago on the first PlayStation. It will be out first on PS4.
LOS ANGELES (June 15, 2015) – At Sony Computer Entertainment of America LLC’s (SCEA) E3 press conference today, SQUARE ENIX® announced that it has begun production on the full remake of FINAL FANTASY® VII for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system.
Leading the development will be key members from the original project, including producer Yoshinori Kitase, director Tetsuya Nomura and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.
First released in 1997 on the PlayStation® computer entertainment system, FINAL FANTASY VII is universally regarded as a hallmark title of the RPG genre. The original title received high praise for its epic storyline, unique characters, and movie sequences that utilized the most cutting-edge technology of the time. Since then, the game has sold over 11 million copies worldwide and continues to receive widespread acclaim from critics and fans around the world. The popular game has even expanded into spin-offs, films, and merchandise.
More updates on this project will be revealed at a later time.

I really hope Square Enix delivers on the 2017 date and that the game sells millions of units. If The Last Guardian, Shenmue 3 and Final Fantasy 7 don't sell very well, fans will have no right to ever demand games like these or Half-Life 3 again.
Time to put the wallet where the mouth was.

Not that i'm complaining though.
This is one for the fans, not a game to tell a new great story.

Also nostalgia can sell plenty of copies. Don't you worry about that.
I just hope we don't have to wait another several years to play it.
It's warranted, though. FFVII is one of my all time great games. Seeing Midgar properly realised in real time (hopefully that's the case) will be brilliant to revisit, especially if the last time you played it was back in 1997.

But yeah, it's not for me. I loved FF7 and cherish the memories, still one of the best, most impactful games I've ever played, this won't ever match it because it can't.

I mena, realistically, a remake of FF7 should be able to tell the story much more effectively, have much better quality music, sound effects and art.
On the subject of a re-make. The world they created was rich and intriguing. Much as Megido said, they'll be able to give us that world on a whole new level now. I LOVE the art and styling they used for FF7, and to see it brought to life with modern tech is thrilling. Midgar looks amazing, the character models look amazing. Even if they do nothing to the gameplay at all, this will still be a day one purchase for me.
