One of the good suprises of Sony's conference was the gameplay demo of Spider-Man which was well done. You can watch it or download the footage in 1080p or 4K. Developed by Insomniac Games, the game will hit PS4 in 2018.
This was the best game on the conference for me, Detroid close second. I am glad it isn't open-world and more like Uncharted with big setpieces. Day one!

I'd be pretty surprised if a spiderman game in 2017 wasn't open world.
Stunning looking game looks very much like it's on rails though and a Batman copy.
I have nothing wrong with either of those things. The Arkham series was the first to really get a Superhero right in video game form. I really don't mind Insomniac cribbing that formula a bit. And I think some aspects of a Spiderman title simply have to be a bit on rails in order for the developers to show off the cool stuff that Spidey is capable of. Although I have less of a hatred in general of QTEs than most people do. I don't find them to make a game any less of a game. Especially if they're only used in certain large scale set pieces as seems to be the case here.

this. it looks phenomenal. super clean visuals and the arkham treatment everyone has been wishing for. finally a good spiderman game? i hope so.

Yep, looks really good. I just wish Sony/Insomniac would have provided a higher quality video. All the other 4K vids Sony provided look pretty phenomenal. Even the 1080p God of War video looks pretty clean. But this video only looks SLIGHTLY better than the 4K Youtube upload. With such a clean aesthetic the compression artifacts really stand out. Like it kinda looks like there's a fine layer of gauze layed atop the video. Sony should double the bit rate and redistribute.
EDIT: After double checking the other 4K vids, I see that the bit rates are the same. Wonder why this one looks worse?

Could be the processes being used to achieve 4K (although the god of war capture was off base hardware) i'd imagine both god of war and days gone are using a full 2160 checkerboarding (like horizon) producing a full 4k image per frame. Insomniac used a different method for ratchet and clank which i assume is used here too, called temporal injection. Maybe its producing softer results?

Ratchet and Clank has one of, if not the cleanest "Faux-K" image I've seen on the Pro. Their rendering method is on point. This looks like compression artifacts in the video itself. It's not surprising. H.264 really needs to be at 50Mb/s+ to produce a truly clean 4K video presentation. I'm just surprised that the other vids don't seem to have the same issue. But like I said, it could just be that the art styles of the other games simply makes it more difficult to notice.
