Wii

Thank you Snoopers, you always know how to film me when I look like an idiot. This time it happened with Wii Fit. Most of the mini-games are fun, with a little preference for the ski jump and the "Marble Madness"-like. The balance really feels the slightest change in my gravity point, impressive. I can't wait for a skating or snowboarding game using this clever peripheral.

lot more to it than I had imagined. Great vid. Now I can see what the buzz is about. Not a game for those nintendo fanboys, but still going to have mass appeal. I can see being big... not my thing but still.

From a few friends I've talked to, everybody's mom who saw G4 during the Nintendo conference wants one. The majority of Wii buyers revealed?

I thought the pic on the main page was from this video and I was like "ooh, Pipo has some beautiful feet...".

The game is brilliant of course, and as commented here already I hope they make Wii skating, snowboarding or plain slalom. It'd be perfect. :)

What's the point in any game?

I thought it looked really good, and rather than just improving hand eye coordination it improves your balance and gets you moving around. This is coming from someone who just has a 360. I seriously want a Wii. Considering I've just been told to box up my 360 and send it back for a replacement, I'm considering just trading it in when I get a new one. Then again, I know I won't do that :P.

Wow that's great. First I thought what a lame gimmick from nintendo again but that's an actual quality product.

I bet a whole load of therapists are going to use it for injury training and rehabilitation of a whole variety of patients. If I had some money right now I'd invest in Nintendo stocks.

I was one of the first to think Nintendeo had lost the plot when they showed Wii fitness, but that video has made me think they've got something very very big on their hands. If they can get the Wiimote working with that board then we could be looking at a new era in gaming.

Because really, there not going to throw that in for free are they? More accessories for the wii, *sigh*

Does look fun. But not something you'd want to play on your own.

@Pipomantis

I'm not going to rant in your topic, and I promise you and everyone else at Gamesyde that this will be the last time I mention the Wii board. Because I know that so many of you like the Wii and think Nintendo's strategy brilliant, I promise in the future not to troll in topics like this one.

Just hear me out for a moment.

I'm very dissapointed in Nintendo. I have no doubts about it anymore. Nintendo created the Wii with the intention of being a 100% Mass Media, Pop Culture Device.

I have no doubts that Nintendo will make huge amounts on the Wii Fit board. I'm absolutely certain that Nintendo's marketing dept did their numbers crunching, saw the potential and very easily arrived on it's uses as a fitness device more than an actual game console.

I believe that Nintendo realizing the problems with weight, obesity and particularly the West's obsession with fitness found the perfect demographic to to take advantage of. So while the mass media praises Nintendo for Wii Fit, I see a strategy of exploitation.

My girlfriend is what you would call a plus sized woman or a "soft body" (as opposed to a woman with a hard body) I love her curves and her voluptuous shape. She's not fat at all, but because she's over a certain weight standard for a woman her height, she's considered obese or "fat".

I tell her how beautiful she is as often as she can stand to here it. lol But she just like millions of other plus sized women feel great pressure to shed as much weight as possible. When I see this beautiful woman panic over the way a certain dress makes her body look, I honestly shake my head in disbelief.

We men are no different. Did you see Reggie's reaction when his weight was displayed on a giant screen for all to see? He became instantly self conscious and wanted the demonstration to stop immediately.

I don't like this at all. The Wii Fit function has absolutely nothing to do with gaming, NOTHING AT ALL. What's it doing on a game console? Oh yes, it's promoting good health and gaming at the same time.

But there is a dual message in all of that, one that is not necessarily healthy for the image of the game industry. Nintendo has been presenting the Wii as the everybody/anybody machine, but at the same time the press has been declaring the Wii as a "healthy choice or alternative" to video gaming.

What does that mean? That all other gaming is bad for you? That unless your hopping around on one foot or throwing your arms around that you're having an unhealthy gaming experience? What is really being said here?

Does anyone see where I'm going with this?

Nintendo seems to be positioning itself like a presidential candidate who wants voters to recognize them as an "outsider" In their press briefing they kept running news clips and articles about the Wii not just being a game console, but as something that will improve you and your family's lifestyle.

Nintendo's success may come at a high cost for the rest of the gaming industry. And I'm not talking about casual gaming, that's another debate entirely. I'm talking about how the rest of the game industry will be viewed in the light of Nintendo's well orchestrated strategy.

And just who was Nintendo talking to at it's press briefing? They showed so many non-games that they certainly could not be talking to gamers. They were communicating with the mass media, who then directed their message to non-gaming mass consumers.

"Nintendo Is Star of E3 Show as Rivals Scramble to Catch Up” - Washington Post

That really says it all right there

On the matter of casual gaming................casual gamers are the most undemanding gamers there are. While core gamers will most certainly demand smart AI, high graphic fidelity and strong gameplay mechanics, casuals will fall for almost anything.

The Pixar's Car video game has sold 7 million copies over various platforms. It's enough to make a core gamers head spin, but game publisher's heads are spinning over the profit potential.

I do believe that the Wii is going to have both a positive and negative effect on gaming. How negative will be also be determined by it's success. And that's sad, because no one should be sitting around hoping that the Wii fails. If anything the Wii can take pressure off of the gaming industry.

Casual gaming can go a long way to taking video games out of the cultural bonfires fires so to speak. But so far the Wii is not looking gamer friendly at all.

There, I said my two bits.

Thanks for not putting "Wii tried it!" in the headline. Whenever someone uses one of those annoying puns I want to punch a kitten in the face.

Absolutely man. Just the other day this Wii walked up to me and called me an unhealthy gamer nerd and said my girlfriend was fat. It hurt a bit but I'm not quite as worked up about it as you are... but then I'm not quite batshit crazy either.

This game automatically fails with me because it's a sandbox non hardcore non game which just isn't next gen enough or cut enough edges. Anyway I'm off to have another Wii sucks conversation with Daniella from France over the awesome Xbox live while we play strip UNO.
