if this was coming for PC, then yhea... in some PC, you could acheive that IQ, not on console.
i have no doubt these are fake shots. no doubt rendered at a higher res and re-sized to 720x1280. but as far as the general smoothness of the image goes, it's perfectly achievable using MSAA. GOW3 prooved that. LBP2 is showing that, as is killzone 2. MSAA is the way to go for AA. you either have traditional 4xAA if you're lucky, or you have the equivilent of something beyond that of 16xAA. i know which one i'd pick if i was making a game.

This was another of the disappoints of E3 to me..the ingame stuff looked abit ropely (nothing like the screens) but ofcourse it's a long way off. What disappointed was their insistance to replace one version of Cole with a completely generic looking version of him. Whats the point of passing him off as the same character when it looks nothing like the original..and is even voiced by a different guy?
My concern is if it will be more fun than the first game. The first game had a ton a really awesome ideas and started off as one of my favorite superhero games in a long time, but the lack of variety really started to hurt the game (as is how I feel w/ just about all sandbox games) and by the end of it I was just playing to finish it.
But it did have some really clever missions and the enemies did have a pretty interesting challenge in some parts.
If they can improve the mission variety and make the second one feel more dynamic all the way through the game I'll be pretty interested. The movements from building to building was really great though. I will say, the first couple hours felt really great though, they just need to figure out how to make that feeling last through the whole game. for me at least.

I dont know how the story evolves and the note it ends on.. so without giving away any spoilers, is there no way that rather than placing Cole in a different skin and voice they couldnt introduce a new character as the hero/anti hero?

Maybe you should read about it before talkning. It around 4xSAA and then MLAA has no sub pixle detection. MLAA can produce somewhere between 4x-8xMSAA.
So no, these screens are too smooth for MLAA.
Still, MLAA is by far the best AA tech on console today.
God of War 3 and it's implementation of MLAA was not jaggie free but it is a very efficient AA method that is more than enough to satisfy most people, and currently the best quality console AA available.
Ultimately though, people should have learnt a long time ago that many screenshots are manipulated to look better than they will on your TV screens.
Shouldn't we be talking about other things like, oh I don’t know the game itself rather than bitching about whether the screenshots are tweaked or not, of course they bloody are, everything is these days. Deal with it.
Just look at the shots and use a bit of imagination to guess how they will look in reality. I'm sure you can do that, can't you?
