Images Xbox 360 PS3

Konami has released a few images of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010. Hopefully this year the game will really show the promised improvements we have been waiting for in the last two years.
Update: E3 trailer added.

The trailer of this, my oh my! Konami never learn, and it's just the same rehashed shite as last year. It looked awful. I was expecting Messi to don a Superman cape and run into a phone box or something at the start.

As for these screens, what have they done? Deepen the shadows? Bravo, Konami. Same shite as usual and it's just looking like a update from last year's absolute shambles of a game. Fifa 10 = PES killer. I mean that not just for this latest game, but for the series overall.

PES, you had your day; gave me some amazing memories. I'll remember you fondly. But alas! your time has now come. RIP.

I've already vented my disappointment and anger on many PES-related forums, so I'll keep it short and sweet here. Quite frankly, the very first screenshot released of PES 2010 had me very excited and optimistic; the latest trailer and these screens, on the other hand, have pretty much made that optimism vanish.

It's looking like FIFA for the second year running.

Shot 3 looks like a screen from L4D, the skin texture is horrific, he looks like a zombie.

For starters, the graphic designers working on these games needs sacked. Well, I suppose that would be Seabass because he's the final say on what goes into these games. The overall appearance of the title screens, down to the menu's and loading presentations is just absolutely disgraceful. That cardboard cut-out, pencil stickmen animation style presentation of the last game disgusted me. It's not modern. It's not stylish. It's just so out of date, and tacky that it's disgusting. It would be the equivalent of seeing someone walking down the street today with a red leather Michael Jackson coat on he wore in Thriller, a perm and a mullet hair cut, Bay City Roller trousers and Jacko's white sequined glove on one hand, and blue suede shoes. Hidious style, and that's only the beginning of their problems.

I'll decide when I see gameplay videos. It's unfair to judge sports games based on screenshots. Why? Cause it doesn't matter how realistic the faces are when you're in Wide camera mode.

Please for the love of god Konami get off your arses and put some actual effort into PES 2010 this year! I've switched to FIFA now but i've got so many brilliant memories from Pro Evo over the years, so sad to see it in the state it is now.

This game was just going to be dated instantly as soon as Seabass stated how he secretly wanks over EA's Fifa engine. I mean, come on - it's been about 8 years since a new PES engine, and more shocking still, not a single one developed for current gen. I don't want a game that looks and plays like a high res PS2 game, which is what this will be. No new engine = no revival. And even then it'll still have about 5 years to catch Fifa's engine, plus no official licenses, no extensive features and support for online either. PES is dead and that's all there is to it.

Actually dingleberry, there have been strong rumours that the PES team has been borrowing some of the tech from Konami's other sports game: PBS (Pro Baseball... something). The engine used for that is next-gen, so it'll be interesting to see how much of it the PES team utilizes (if true).

It can't just borrow elements of other engines, though. It needs a complete from-the-ground-up re-wrte. That includes the graphics too. Even if Konami were to do such a thing (and it would take them at least 2 or 3 years to do) then they'd still be lacking the features, and of course all the authenticity. I, indeed we and everyone else who was once a fan of this genre, or still is, have to capitulate to the fact that once Fifa caught up with it in the gameplay department, it would be all over. This is what has happened. It's only the beggining of the PES demise, and after this year maybe people, and especially Konami and Seabass, will begin to realise this. It just cannot compete with what EA are doing, and until they can, PES will always lag behind.

Well, it's a bit silly to imply that Konami should just give up.

Konami does need a new engine to compete, and hopefully we'll be seeing that in the near future. I don't think they'll continue to go the way they are, because it's been pretty well highlighted that they're no longer king of the footie games.

There's nothing wrong with hoping that PES comes good this year; it actually benefits us as gamers (and footie fans).
