Gameplay was awesome, live demo...Blmbox you missed it? lol

Though the melee was still like Oblivion, generic swings and not much various, but ah well, epic scale and the dragons was awesome.

3rd person has nice animations, finally!
Wish they could show it off in combat to see the hit detection.

There was. And it's on GT - about seven minutes, and dragons in action :)

Third person looks good, like some people maybe play it that way even if its not that great, who knows maybe I should just stick with The Witcher 2.

If you're hoping for a 3rd person hack 'n' slash title, look elsewhere.

This has the potential to be my favourite game of all time. The demo walkthrough on GT was absolutely awesome.

yes?

If CD Projekt can do it with less budget I see it as a fail for part of Bethesda not having combat up to par.

And don't bring the "but is openworld RPG", I dont care, thats not a excuse.

Blmbox, Skyrim is a hack and slash game in the end with RPG elements.
You weird axes, hammers, swords...no?

What is wrong to make the melee as great as possible as the magic, since magic doesnt need much animations other than some simple hand gestures.

IMO the 3rd person animation was surprisingly well, if they nail the hit detection then its great.
Even Todd Howard said in the live demo interview that he prefers 3rd person, but I guess he should look somewhere else too then :P

I do believe if Todd likes the 3rd person camera as well, I am sure he will try his best to make it as good as they can.

Firstly, Skyrim is an open-world RPG with action elements - not the other way around. There's a difference. If you've ever played Oblivion then you'd understand that. I absolutely love that they're making the combat more visceral, but if you're expecting endless button combos and Gaiden-esque combat, prepare to be disappointed. Don't even expect hit detection to be spot on because it probably won't be. What I do believe is that the combat will be good enough to compliment everything else which surrounds it - and believe me, the combat really is a small component of Skyrim.

Secondly, Todd says in the walkthrough that he prefers 1st person, not 3rd. Watch it again if you need confirmation of that. The Elder Scrolls is intended to be played in 1st person, but now those who prefer in 3rd have that as a feasible option.

I am not expecting shit, especially not NG type.

I just want the combat to be more satistfying than Oblivion was.
You need to stop adding "NG" to every combat comment I give because I know thats not what I want, if I wanted that then no game in the world would satistfy me unless its strictly from Team Ninja, and I am not that stupid.

You should also stop giving it excuses like "open world RPG with action elements" like if its its an excuse to make bad combat.
Devs who make any game with melee in should strive to make the combat damn good, just like devs should strive to get that 60 FPS on consoles.

During combat, action is where its at and nothing more. And if the melee isnt satistfying then whats the point of fighting, just run away and do more exploring.
Outside of the combat its RPG and exploring ad they do what they do best.

As long as the combat is more polished than Oblivion was I would be fine with it.

PS. So I misunderstood it, but still. 3rd or 1st person, either way it should be good. I do see 3rd person animation was pretty well done, if they nail the hit detection to be good then thats good enough.

I don't understand why we shouldnt ask for good combat, I mean its a game afterall, not some novel or movie, we will be playing and gameplay should be fun, combat is a great part of any game and in this is too wheter is "openworld" or not, thats not a excuse to say "dont expect good hit detection" what kind of coment is that?

They as a devs has teh obligation to make the gameplay fun and satisfying, if not then why make games? just make some movie or write a book.

IMO is perfectly reasonable to ask for good combat.

The unscripted multiple dragon Ai has me most excited. Dragon Age 2's 1 terribly scripted dragon should be ashamed of itself.

This game puts Dragons Age to shame, this game has REAL dragon combat ANY time, random place and random behavior, whats not to like.
Best part is, you will be going at the enemies ALONE, solo, lone wolf, thats what I like about it.

From what I saw in here the combat in first person is almost exactly like Oblivion and thats a bad thing.

Almost no reaction to strikes, almost non existant hit detection, sword strike animation looks like from 2004 and so on.

I just saw the video again, the first person combat is exactly like Oblivion, there is no sense of proper hit detection collision, its unsatistfying when you hit enemies.

I need to see much more gameplay videos, though I love that snowy nordic levels.

That's funny, I actually really enjoyed the combat in Oblivion. Block and strike, strafing while attacking, and different swings. Certainly more realistic than a preset combo system. I didn't love the magic that much, but I am more a melee guy anyway. The magic in Skyrim actually looks cool. Love the improvements to animations too...

Have you played TW2? I haven't been finding the combat as noteworthy as others would have you believe.
And don't bring the "but is openworld RPG", I dont care, thats not a excuse.
I just think there must be some kind of reason that pretty much ALL open world RPGS/MMORPGS have pretty bland looking combat. It'd certainly be nice if it was better though.
