The first look at the new Resident Evil 2 was unveiled during the PlayStation Showcase and the visuals speaks for themselves, the game has been completely rebuilt with Capcom's RE Engine. It's coming January 25 2019.

Return to Raccoon City in a Spine-chilling Reimagining of Resident Evil® 2 This January
Capcom Expands Upon the Original Fan Favorite Survival Horror Game with a Deeper Narrative Experience

LOS ANGELES – June 11, 2018 – At the Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) E3 press conference today, Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, unveiled the first look at the new Resident Evil® 2, one of the most highly anticipated games of all time. Based on the original genre-defining masterpiece, the new game has been completely rebuilt from the ground up for a deeper narrative experience. Using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, Resident Evil 2 offers a fresh take on the classic survival horror saga with breathtakingly realistic visuals, heart-poundingly immersive audio, a new over-the-shoulder camera, and modernized controls on top of gameplay modes from the original game. Resident Evil 2 brings its reimagined brand of horror to the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X and Windows PC on January 25, 2019.

As one of the most influential and critically acclaimed video games of all time, the original Resident Evil 2 introduced some of the most memorable experiences and characters in the long-running Resident Evil franchise, which has sold over 83 million units worldwide. Originally released in 1998 on the PlayStation® console, the game continued the storyline of the first Resident Evil® and embodied the action, tense exploration and puzzle-solving gameplay that defined the series.

Resident Evil 2 introduced characters who would go on to become some of the most iconic and beloved heroes in Capcom’s history: rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield, who are thrust together by a disastrous outbreak in Raccoon City that transformed its population into deadly zombies. They must work together to survive and get to the bottom of what is behind the terrifying attack. Both Leon and Claire have their own separately playable campaigns, allowing players to see the story from both characters’ perspective.

Twenty years later, the new Resident Evil 2 sees the nightmare return, now with unprecedented levels of immersion as seen in last year’s acclaimed Resident Evil® 7 biohazard. With Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine powering a new photorealistic style, the characters themselves appear sharper than ever and the grotesque hordes of zombies are brought to life with a horrifyingly realistic wet gore effect. Zombies now react in real time as they take instant visible damage, making every bullet from the player count. Stunning lighting brings the familiar rooms and corridors of Raccoon City Police Department to new life. Players will feel they’re in the shoes of heroes Leon and Claire, terrified to step out of the light for fear of what flesh-eating nightmares might await them in the darkness.

“The press and fan reaction to Resident Evil 2 when we said ‘We Do It’ in 2015 has been overwhelming. We’ve been very eager to unveil the new game to the world this week,” said Capcom Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi. “We want fans to see the reimagining of Resident Evil 2 not only captures the magic of the beloved original, but also expands it to deliver a richer experience. The first look at E3 is just a taste of what’s to come.”

Attendees at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (Los Angeles, June 12-14) can get an early preview with the first hands-on demo opportunity for Resident Evil 2 at Capcom’s booth in the South Hall, #2223. There, they can experience a completely new take on one of the most iconic moments in the Resident Evil® franchise – joining Leon on his first day on the job at RPD as he explores the station for clues on how to make it out of this nightmare alive.

Oh Yeah!!!!!

This looks incredible. Really excited for RE2R.

PS. Game2k, There's a 2nd trailer as well - the one from the conference, if you can get a hold of it. Thanks for this trailer and the images.

The badly implemented DOF isn't doing those screens any favours. It looks pretty rough. Crossing my fingers for classic fixed camera mode.

Thanks for sharing! But yeah, there's a second trailer shown in the conference with the rat perspective, hope you can upload that as well.
And I'm patiently waiting for The Last of Us Part II also. =D

Couldn't give a toss about fixed cameras, that looks fucking phenomenal for a remake. Better than expected. It's got the horror and the atmosphere nailed by the bollocks and then some, which is the most vital aspect of these games. Proper George Romero type stuff.

From the looks of that trailer, which is different to the reveal at the event, it's a strong possibility that there are more than one camera options in there, and it looks like 1st person in some of those scenes, and if that's the case, then it's also a possibility that a VR mode could be applied to it. This thing in VR? Shit your trunks scary. Make it so.

The rat opening in the conference was brilliant, the ending could have had a bigger impact but it was an excellent trailer

LOL I don't think you need to inform them of the trailer existing. It's kinda their thing. And they probably saw it in person...

I think it has been confirmed that fixed camera is an option but I can't see the link to a press release for myself. Claire's campaign is definitely playable though, straight off the description on the PS Store. This comparison shot should get you hyped :) https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DfdVZfGVMAEmFAX.jpg

capcom are fucking that aspect of their games up pretty hard recently. between Nero and Dante looking like shit in DMC5 and Leon/Claire looking like shit in this game i think they've kind of lost the plot.

I agree Nero and Dante looks jacked up (Dante looks like Xmen's Sabretooth) but Leon and Claire looks fine. I'm loving they captured the right atmospheric setting for true survival horror.

What people forget is that the original designs of these characters come from the back end of the 90's. Remember what characters in those days looked like? Yeah, not too great. Leon's floppy hair, overly feminine face, and Claire looked like a porcelain Chinese doll. Just a result of not having that polygon budget for the CG back then. I don't mind their faces changing a bit to resemble actual people. Could be worse. Could be Hulk roid beast Chris from RE5.

Why not something even slightly resembling the Leon from later games/CGi movies? You know, so the character actually looks recognisable and maintains some semblance of consistency?

This is just some random dude who's had his face scanned dressed like Leon. May as well be a cosplayer. Claire looks even fucking worse. Lol. But then we are talking about the company that changed Chris Redfield 20 times and just announced a devil may cry with the worst faces I've ever seen, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. Capcom gotta capcom I guess.

Looks like him to me. I recognised him straight away. Bit of a haircut so he doesn't look so ridiculous by todays standard. It's hyperbole to make such a big deal out of changes like this. They now look like actual people now. Imagine if people complained about the voice acting, that it wasn't cheesy enough like the originals. Stuff like that improves over time. Thankfully.

It'll still be in 1st person, should you wish. I'd put money on that.

I don't get all the fretting and dummy spitting over the camera. The game is now a complete total remake from the ground up using today's technologies, in a 3d engine. It's not restricted now to just one camera like the originals had to be. It's now just a case of if Capcom added the options in there to allow the player to choose. Even if fixed cameras aren't there, I'm sure they made the appropriate gameplay changes to facilitate the threat that the slow moving zombies carried in the original because we couldn't see them in a lot of instances. So long as they manage to nail that threat and keep ammo low, it'll still be the same survival horror experience.

Eh i wish it was first person, let's hope we have the choice.
Third person is for pussies.
RE7 in VR was best RE after REMake.

Characters look their age which is good.
Still in no matter what camera. It looks dope, the horror vibe is strong and the atmosphere from the original is here. January can't come soon enough...

just watched a 17 minute demo and my worries with the third person perspective are pretty much gone. i would still love a classic option, but i was honestly expecting third person to result in too much of an action fest like resi 4/5/6 etc ended up being. with massive hordes to contend with and contextual kung fu kicking staggered zombies (+other lameness) but it isn't like that at all thankfully. i still don't like Beiber Leon's face, but i can live with it. plus i like his more noobish personality. i do really like the damage modelling of the zombies though, looks pretty nice.

if the puzzles aren't watered down any, then i'll likely buy it sometime near release.
