Nice demonstration, though it still didn't show almost anything new gameplay wise. You can do almost all of this in Rise of the Tomb Raider. The game comes out in 3 months and this is only the 2nd time showing gameplay, but unfortunately none of the major new gameplay mechanics.

Still excited for the game, but they could have showed more. The developer even talked about some of the new gameplay additions, but didn't show them. Next time they should just show, not talk.

PS. Nice edit, Game2k.

These games are such a mixed bag to me. Like, the cinematics look quite good, although the performance in-cinematic is all over the damn place. But then gameplay is this weird mix of underbaked animations and environments. I dunno how to feel about it. Like, it isn't BAD per se, but it isn't nearly as consistent as an Uncharted title.

The graphics really look a bit downgraded from RoTR? I understand its a different dev this time, but isn't it the same engine?

The cinematics look better. The gameplay looks about the same. But that's kinda the point. These games have never looked as good as I think some people like to say.

I think they've savaged this character and the franchise in a similar, but worse, manner than what Capcom did to Resident Evil. It's went off the rails and become something else, and should be called something else.

If the series still felt like it's own thing like it used to, I could maybe forgive these sorts of visual inconsistencies. But because it's trying SO hard to be uncharted it's impossible not to draw comparisons and it's impossible not to see all of its failings. If they can't do the subtleties, don't bother trying. I'd rather the animations be simpler but more consistent than what they currently have on display here. I can live without Lara reaching out to grab walls tbh. It a nice little animation quirk Drake does but they really didn't need to attempt (and fail) to mimic it in this reboot series. It adds nothing and if anything detracts because it's done poorly.

it's just stupid and lazy game design.
It's what games like this are in a nutshell.

You'd think with all the wonderful technology these days that devs have, they'd be able to design fantastic, cerebrally challenging puzzles that make use of physics and other nifty stuff, and base your game around that and exploration, with some action chucked in between like the older games? Nope. That's too much trouble and probably too boring for the kids these days.

Lara Croft turning into this ultra violent character, savagely stabbing people to death with a pick axe and a knife. Not something I imagined back in the day. Funny how the size of her tits were all the controversy.

I like the franchise, but if it's again: startwith a bow, upgrade the bow, get a handgun, upgrade the handgun, you can now make molotovcocktails, get a machine gun, upgrade machine gun, ....
And then the same skill tree....
I'm tired of that. If she 'forgot' everything she learned during the previous games, then it's just stupid and lazy game design.
Part of it is they want to do episodic - in combination with new people playing it each time.
I don't know if it's lazy or if they know the turnover rate of their players. Or how many new players get each game etc.

Sony's The Last of Us II presentation tonight even more so than Uncharted seems like a major nail in the coffin of this Tomb Raider title. Everything bad that I had to say about this Tomb Raider earlier? TLOU2 is the polar opposite of all that.

why can't it compete on its own merits? against its own mediocrity?
