PS3

Sony has announced during their press conference that they would in the end have the exclusivity of Unreal Tournament 3 for the PS3, at least this year. And more importantly it will be possible to use the mods of the PC version on the console, and that's an awesome news. New trailer inside.

The 360 version is coming out early 2008 Epic confirmed. Sony probably paid money and on top of that the 360 version probably could use the development time since they started on it later than the PC/PS3 versions.

Could also be that MS doesnt want Epic crowding their Halo baby since multiplayer is a big part of Halo3. Not really interested in this game though, I only played the original UT on the PC quite a bit and it's been too old-school ever since.

This version also supports PC mods, which may be an issue on the 360, since it will make the DLC rates look a little inflated. Not sure if that has anything to do with the timed exclusive, but maybe MS should play nicer with Epic. They're a good developer to have on your side.

I think this is misleading, it wont support the mods for the pc one. Or rather it will support the mods built using some pre defined mod tools or something. True pc mods with lots of added stuff surely wont just run on the ps3 counterpart without being ported.

thats good and bad news , ps3 owners will enjoy the game early , but 360 owners will get a far more polished game , gameplay bugs found on the ps3 version will surely be fixed from source code and not with updates.

I don't think most mods will have a problem transferring right over to PS3. Maybe major mods will need some kind of tweaking for PS3.

Mods will give this almost endless replayability. So.. probably.

It may not be very difficult to port those mods though. Hell, some Morrowind mods work on the original Xbox if you hack them in, and they're not even supposed to be supported. Keep in mind almost 100% of the modding is UnrealScript and UnrealEd, which should be standard across platforms.

Could be wrong, but it really shouldn't be that difficult to support.

I would think that larger mods, especially total conversions, may be hard due to resource limitations. A lot of mods are abusive in terms of asset use (i.e. lots of extra textures, higher resolutions, more audio, etc) and with the limited resource model on a console this could be an issue.

Good point, hopefully allowing mods will be a succes on the PS3 (kindof doubt it because consoles just don't have that mod culture background), and make MS think about their completly closed marketplace system that almost only allows premium content..

We'll see.. I'll play it on PC anyway..

Likewise, but it's good to see user created content on consoles.

Are we sure it's gonna be released on 360 in 2008 ?
I thought it was a time exclusive, but it says pc/ps3 in the latest 1up show.
i'm starting to feel a little worried over that matter.
