Oh, Metal Gear. I bid farewell to you sweet prince. May you die in peace as a good memory of what you once were, than live to face the bitter reality your maker wishes it to be.

@Matt: It's just a side mission, a little extra Kojima thought would be cool because peace walker is based in the same area is the film Jurassic park...and it's hella fun too. So, stop your moaning...Peace walker is a hell of a title, definitely worth the 40/40 in famitsu.

Cheeky. Rest assured that I know what Peace walker is about, and what MG was. It's good that it sank this low, now everyone can testify how buried of franchise it is by Kojima's lack of vision, but anyone could see that miles away.

You can keep moaning about my thoughts like a little annoyed girl, or get past them.

But this has no impact on the actually story of the game, it's just something that Kojima and a producer of the monster hunter game at capcom had been talking about for years, they've been wanting to create a cross game tie-in for years.

They actually discussed it over drinks not telling the companies about what they were actually doing, even people on the Metal Gear and Monster hunter teams had no idea.

Seeing as Monster hunter isn't as big as Metal gear is in the west it's a great move for capcom to get it in the game and get their brand out there.

Nothing to do with Kojima's lack of vision...

Trash it all you want! This game warrants a PSP, good thing I already bought one for Crisis Core and Portable Ops!
I only wish someone would port these for PS2 and save me the pain of buying portable games and consoles...

This game laughs in the face of DLC. And people blame it for having too much ackward content. Can't believe this. Damn purists who can't enjoy jokes and EXTRA stuff.

the monster hunter stuff is like the ape escape mini-game from MGS3. just a humerous distraction. it isnt like the apes appeared within the main storyline, now THAT would be worth complaining about.

For once I agree with KORNdog. As soon as I saw that dragon, I was thinking "Activate pretentious whining-mode about where the series went off track."

I don't think "milking" a franchise is a necessary or warranted criticism as long as most of the games in said franchise remian high in quality.

I'm far from a big fan of MGS games, they just don't fit my tastes no matter how hard I try to like them (though I did get a little bit of fun out of snake eater). But that being said, i'm still at least open-minded enought to see why other ppl might love them so much. something i wish i saw more often in the gaming community btw.

MGS games are pretty much always AAA or near AAA quality so as long as they continue to make them good games, why would anyone want less good games???

Halo/Mario or any other franchise w/ great games falls in the same category for me. As long as the games are good and really fun to play, the more the better IMO.

40/40 means a perfect score, as in unmatched and impossible to get any better.

I know how japanese like their games and i really don't find it odd they gave this title such score, but saying it's definitely worth the score means you agree too. Do you really think there is no room for improvement in this game and genre, at least in the PSP?

sbs1003: I know 40/40 means a perfect score but it's all about how the reviewer felt plus it's their own opinion, everybody has one and it completely open to interpretation. But to put it into context heres a list of other 40/40 games from Famitsu, how many of these games would U score a 40/40.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998, Nintendo, for Nintendo 64)
Soulcalibur (1999, Namco, for Dreamcast)
Vagrant Story (2000, Square Co., for PlayStation)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (2003, Nintendo, for Nintendo GameCube)
Nintendogs (2005, Nintendo, for Nintendo DS)
Final Fantasy XII (2006, Square Enix, for PlayStation 2)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008, Nintendo, for Wii)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (2008, Konami, for PlayStation 3)
428: F?sa Sareta Shibuya de (2008, Sega, for Wii)
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies (2009, Square Enix, for Nintendo DS)
Monster Hunter Tri (2009, Capcom, for Wii)
Bayonetta (2009, Sega, for Xbox 360)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii (2009, Nintendo, for Wii)
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (2010, Konami, for PSP)

I think what kojima and his team have done with the PSP is nothing short of outstanding, the amount of content is amazing, the story is solid, the graphics are right up there, the sound is superb, the controls are a little tricky at first but after a short time you'll be pretty comfortable with them and being able to Ad Hoc 3 other PSP together for some quality multi-player is awesome. So yeah, I agree with the score, there isn't more much room for improvement besides the A.I. it's a little dumb at times.

@DJmizuhara: Probably only 3, considering the time of release at least, because some outdid themselves in some aspects with sequels that were not considered as good (ex. Majora's Mask, though i really like it over OoT).

Im not judging the game, i haven't even played it. I like what i see, i just don't see perfection material. That's why i asked.

It sounds like it tops everything else from a technical standpoint (at least for now) when it comes to the PSP and that's much to say as developers usually don't put too much thought into portable games (at least the western ones, japanese think of the PSP as the next PS2 and i consider that a good thing). It having Ad Hoc is a great plus, im considering to buy a PSP in late July and im definitely getting this and recommending it to my friends. It's nice to hear the story is solid too.

Thanks for taking your time to find all those examples, seems 2008 and 2009 were very liked by Famitsu.

Metal Gear is silly. It's always been silly. No matter WHAT the players and fanboys try to cram down my throat about 'deep' and 'epic'... it's just silly. This is a bit MORE silly than usual- but I can't say it's out of character for the series.
