PC Xbox 360 PS3

Ubisoft released these three brand new images of Far Cry 2, of course from the PC version. Looking good, as expected.

PC images

  • Far Cry 2: 3 images - PC images

I don't have much hope for this one at all.

The PC version is being made by the people who made the Far Cry console games. They went on and on about how this wasn't coming to consoles and they wouldn't work on it, and then Ubisoft forces them to announce it.

So basically PC will get a new horrible Far Cry game, and the consoles will get a horrible port of a horrible Far Cry game.

I'm thinking this will be just like Crysis. Looks super but nothing there to really want to make you play. Kind of.

It looks OK I guess. The people in the first shot looka bit plastic...after games like GOW I think its possible to make human skin look a lot better these days.

The explosions look nice, but its hard to tell what they are doing to the environment.

the 360 version kind of killed farcry a bit for me, essentially it was so big, and so repeptetive that I really dont care much about this at all.

Why are the two folk in the first image 10x smaller than the railway line?

Jigen, this game has been in development for more than 3 years as a PC-only, hardcore PC title. It was never meant to run on or be ported to consoles at all, as anyone would be able to ascertain from the numerous interviews with the developers out there. To quote the producer himself, they "didn't want to make a crappy console game."

The decision to produce a port of this game for PS3 and 360 was only made very, very recently. Up until that point, everything was developed faithfully with the hardcore PC audience and Far Cry 1 fanbase in mind. THAT'S why this game will not suck.

And, lest you forget, Ubisoft Montreal is the same team that developed Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed, and the Splinter Cell series, as well as some of the Rainbow Six games. These are very talented and acclaimed developers.

You should read what I typed more carefully. I already stated what you just said, and that's WHY it will suck. The people that are making the game are people that have only done crappy console games before this. They've already blemished the Far Cry name (the first one being pretty good on PC), and now they're just milking it.

I'm not one of those idiots who thinks console games suck. Console games these days are better than PC games, period. PC games used to be awesome, but the focus on the PC version won't save this from being utter trash. It takes the worst from all worlds and then tries to port it back onto consoles.

Like I said, the PC version will be horrible and the console versions extra horrible.

they're mini people. the player looking thru the scope is actually just standing right over top of them. didn't you know the plot for this game is based around people mutated into super-tiny-people?

I think that's exactly why a lot of us thing it will suck. Sure, it looks pretty, but so did Crysis. The game itself wasn't actually worth playing though. This looks to be exactly the same, going out of their way to make the best looking game ever with litte regard to the gameplay.

I thought they would have learned something after Crysis sold about four copies.

I just want to say too, this is all IMO. If you want to anticipate the game, go ahead. I wouldn't want to spoil anyone on a game they might get something out of.

WinterSnowblind, this game isn't being even touched by Crytek. Crytek sold Ubisoft the IP after they released Far Cry 1 on PC only. After that it has been in Ubisoft's hands.

Just a note, Ubisoft Montreal has 1600 developers for those still wondering about what I said earlier. Now I'm not a mole inside Ubisoft, but I do hear things. Anyways, it's just plain logic that they're going to have to split that 1600 into teams for all of the games they're pumping out.

It's still being made by Ubisoft.. and while Montreal may have made some good games, they've never made a good shooter. I don't think this will be all that special either.

Crysis is exceeding EA's sales expectations, and if it hasn't already, will almost certainly break 1m copies WW. Nearly everyone I know who has played Crysis friggin loves it, too.

They've already sold over 1 million to stores, and that's really all EA cares about.

I know.. it's sorta ridiculous that people will take the first two weeks of NPD data and assume that the game flopped.

The thing about the engine their using is the real impressive stuff doesn't show up in screens. Sure it looks great, But there are things like the storms, the dynamic lighting, the plant life regeneration, wind effecting smoke etc, and stuff. The AI also looks great, and for anyone who saw the leaked demonstration, the chase AI with vehicles looks great. The AI is really aggressive, unlike a lot of games out there where the AI is just stupid or cautious, etc.

If you watch some actual game play and listen to what the devs are saying, you will know that this game is bringing some great game play stuff in, its not just a great engine, but they are actually trying to make a game on top of it. The fire fights looks very hectic, high paced, and adrenaline pumping. The vehicle chases look really great too, with the enemy bashing into you and trying to run you into a ditch etc.

I really think this is going to be amazing. These are the same guys that developed Farcry Instincts for Xbox (original), and that was an incredible game, one of my favs last gen. I loved their own take on the series and the ideas they put in to the game. I thought it was considerably better than the PC version in nearly every way except for the minor loss of the free-roaming aspect of the game (not a complete loss, just not as much free-roaming). This game looks to fix all of that, and it's in a totally new setting.
