For someone who doesn't have any of the Fifa's yet (ie. me), I'd rather pay a little extra for the upgrades, than pay any amount for a downgrade.

Minor improvements?

You haven't seen FIFA 10 reviews, have you? It's a plethora of refinements over Fifa 09 flaws (MANY of them extremely annoying) that prevented it to be a Triple A football game. Fifa 10 now does almost everything right.

Night and day, or Fifa 10 is to 09, what 09 was to 07. Catch the drift?

Actually i am really dissapointed about this game. I really enjoyed the demo and played it for hours, so i took it for a rent yesterday and was a little bit suprised that it plays slightly different. Well thats just a subjective view but i dont like the full game as much as i liked the demo.

- long passes are a pain, especially from the side into the keepers area, no headers at all
- the refs decisions are sometimes very doubtfull (full bodycheck and nothing happens, little foot touch and you get a yellow card)
- defending is way to easy, simply press the button at the right time and you got the ball, which makes attacking very frustating on the other hand
- very hard to plan your plays on the field, cuz 3 defenders are running towards you and can steal the ball so easily

All in all I think that if I wouldnt have read an article about the new game mechanics, i wouldnt notice them in game.
As said this is just my subjective opinion, but the gameplay feels strange somehow.

@ Rockxs:

You should pass more often. Your third and fourth concern could be avoided this way. In a real football match you also barely ever see an attacker dribble through 3 or even 1 defender.

And also make sure to check your controls. Maybe you played with assistedlong passes in the demo or something...

Rockxs: Also are you using the new skilled dribble to beat players? Both triggers held down and left stick to move.

I've bought the game on Wednesday. And for me it was fantastic. All the transfers are up to date. The game plays really fluent and has more detail then ever. To give you an example. Sum all the football genre games up in the world except for FIFA 09, then and only then you'll have half of what you'll get with FIFA 10. 360 movement, dribbling, shooting, gravity, sounds, referees and even offside. PERFECT!

I agree with Rockxs . The gameplay is strange when you're playing against a friend or online. Now it feels more like it is more fun to play against the CPU than a real person.

The referee is very very annoying and I've only played for a couple of hours. =/

But I like a lot of the new implemented animations and the ball physique. The graphics are getting better also.
