Trailer PC PS4 Xbox One

Square-Enix released this new trailer (with French subtitles sorry about that) of Final Fantasy VII Remake during the PlayStation Experience. The fans like me of turn based battle will without a doubt be disappointed by the new realtime battle system displayed in there, but I'm sure many others will be delighted...
Update: English version added.

So this looks great imo, the only thing that bothers me is that they modeled Could like he suffers from some sort of eating disorder. Look at those twiggy goddamn arms! He looks malnourished ffs :)

Well the game itself looks very impressive visually. They have really captured the originals feel and I think visuals are some of the best I have seen. In terms of the battle system, I don't might if it is primarily real time, but I hope they incorporate a lot of strategic factors. Gambits, pausing during combat to re-deploy skills and characters, etc. Also a level of difficulty which encourages strategy.

In terms of being episodic, I think on the whole it is the right direction. Re-imagining this game with these kind of visuals is going to make it immense. There were a lot more distinct environments and locations in FFVII than in say games like Witcher 3 or Skyrim. They could do it like the Lord of the Rings. Three full and massive games, where you save transfers between games. If this means we are going to have a massive world rendered in 3D with virtually no cuts to the story and additional content, then I am all for it...

Cloud design is similar to Advent Children animation, i personally doesn't anything against that but yes it's really different from original FF7.

Besides the action elements, this game will be in chapters rather than a full release.

Hope the game will sell well, and before this we still have XV to play

@Megido: His arms are perfectly normal. What are you, a bigass troll or something. Bigass muscles means no shit you know. It's all just visual and unhealthy proteïne shakes, not especially power -_- Are you that naïve???

must be some übermuscles inside his skinny arms for him to wield a sword twice his size. I also reacted to Cloud's slim chiseled arms in the trailer. Midgar always looked like a poor place to grow up, so maybe he didn't get much food? It's not like it's not realistic, i've seen people like that in the gym, but it was just a bit strange (?) and unexpected to see it in Final Fantasy.

Cloud's concept art has always had not so large arms. Doesn't matter though, as them muscles seem quite toned anyway.

But Cloud's strength was never from his natural physique. It's from the JENOVA cells.

Hearing that this game will be in parts really disappointed me, Square. Are you really going to release this game on several discs? I can't imagine this will be download-only until all parts are out.

stuff from last interviews: Cloud looking sick is partly due to the lighting. Nojima likes that Cloud looks very sick

I love any type of RPG, and while I loved the turn based aspects of the original, I really liked what I saw from the new battle system. It feels like an evolved/improved version of Crisis Core's battle system, which I really liked.

Visually, I was expecting more from a PS4 game, sometimes some scenes, textures and lighting looked very simplistic, like if they came from a PS3 game. I'm sure the game is still in the early stages and will improve, but my initial impression of the graphics is nowhere near that of Kingdom Hearts 3, which just looks fantastic.

I didn't like Cloud and Barry's character design, was expecting Barry to be bulkier and have stronger arms, I also prefer his face from Advent Children. As for Cloud, I agree with Megido, his arms are too much thin, maybe increa his arms' size 1.5-2x. Also, I really hated the hair texture, felt too much like that of the FF7 PS3 showcase demo, which I also hated - Square Enix definitely needs to improve on the graphics and character design.

Square Enix, for the love of everything that is sacred and holy, do NOT fuck Aerith, Tifa, Vincent and Red XIII character designs!!!!!

Lastly, being episodic is disappointing, but if that's what it takes to release the Remake, then so be it. Better episodic than nothing at all. Hopefully one day Square Enix will remake Chrono Trigger in the art style and character design of Dragon Quest 8 on the PS2 - it more than deserves the Remake treatment done correctly.

Like many others I'm pretty worried about the combat system not being very good, it would have been nice to see the exact same combat system only with next gen presentation, but I guess they have other (hopefully better) ideas. The style looks very true to the original so I still think it could be a cool experience, but I'm guessing we wont see the final episode until a very long time from now, if not the PS5 era lol.

When you say "bigass" are you saying that trolls have big ass muscles? Ah, Americans and their weird lingo.

I don't get the complaint about him being stick thin, which he is. The original Cloud design was anemic-looking too.

True, but that was back in the PS1 era when the graphics weren't very good, plus it had the mix between the more realistic character design and the SD one. Now that it's going to be more realistic all the time, it sticks out like a sore thumb for some people, me included.

Either way, if it comes to PC - eventually - I'm sure people will make Cloud's arms a little more bulkier.

Skinny metrosexual feminine boyband looking main character with crazy looking weird spikey hairstyle weilding huge sword.

Is this new to some people?
Thats how most JRPG/anime main characters look like, they make them look almost like themselves in real life :P

Just check the developer interviews from japanese games, same hairstyle like their games/anime.

Pretty likely I would say. However, it hasn't been announced for PC, let alone Xbone. I think Gamersyde jumped the gun a little, even if it is highly likely given the expense of the project and popularity of the series. So far all they have said is that it will release on PS4 first.

Selling a game in chunks. Sounds about right for todays industry practices. They'll probably sell materia for 5 quid a pop. Get the Weapon DLC, only 30 bucks!

Awesome trailer! And just as i thought, The remake will be powered by UE4.

Yoshinori Kitase- “We realize how special Final Fantasy VII is to fans, and we place our trust in Unreal Engine 4 technology and tools to help deliver this long-awaited remake, crafted for modern platforms. Working with the team at Epic and having their support throughout this process was invaluable and we’re excited to bring the product of that collaboration to long-time fans and newcomers to the series.”

UE4 is easy to work with and it can deliver great levels of detail. it's also great for multiplatform development.

What I fail to understand is that the developers fail to understand. It was the battle system that made FF7 great. It wasn't the cocka-meme plot holed story, and it wasn't Separoth. All the young posers think that...
It was the battle system as a whole, that's it: the Materia, the monster combination, the weapons, the hidden bosses, the summons and the skill types. That's it.

Why is that so difficult for them to understand? It's what the gamers want and they're refusing to give it to them like a bunch of little incompetent children. They have an opportunity to revitalize Final Fantasy and they're going to fucking blow it.

That's only one opinion on it.

I'd argue that the characters, setting, world (and exploration of it) and story leant far more to what made FF7 so good other than the combat system. Without these elements, the game would have been bollocks regardless of how good the combat system was.

It wasn't just my opinion. I think you'll find the good majority of gamers who still even play video games now, when this first came out and enjoyed it in its time, would agree that the main thing that made it good was the combat system as a whole.

You can have as much setting and beauty and world as you want, but that isn't the core gameplay for any game. Fighting games would have no audience if that was what was important (considering you're basically in a furnished room). You can take any of the previous FF worlds and drop the whole FF7 combat system in them and make the game better instantly.

While I agree it was the combination of all the elements you described helping the game be great and appealing, the one thing that stood out the most for gamers was its combat system, and that is what will not exist in the new one. Which means you're going to be soaked in its setting and world and story more than anything else -- all the things that have helped turn the series into what it has become.

What I'm stating is nothing profound or new, and they should know this.

Yeah, picking attack 5 times then healing for every single fight in the entire game aside from the gimmicky ones sure was great.

Im happy that theyve changed the system personally, as i think the original one lacked strategy and was slow as shit. It was the materia system that made combat fun, and as long as that is intact, it will still be fun.

Do they mean episodic? how will that even work into RPG context? what about leveling up characters and backtracking, will all that pass through the content?

on the side, SE said the game is expected to make further graphical changes. i hope they fix Cloud's arms and his hair, it looks a little to hard around the edges and it shimmers a lot in motion.
