Images Xbox 360 PS3

Square-Enix released these images of Final Fantasy XIII, some showing the English translated version of the game. The game will hit the Japanese shelves in December on Playstation 3 only while the rest of the world will have to wait until 2010 to play the game on Xbox 360 or PS3.

Ummm, these shots look pretty poor, the mish mash of detail levels is pretty obvious, from the pre-rendered backgrounds to the flat lighting and the aliasing of actual geometry.
It has a PS1 type effect, sure, far more detail, but the conflicting technologies is pretty obvious and very distracting.

Big letdown graphics-wise. Since I;ve never played the series and I've got a backlog of RPGs that look way better on the 360 Im skipping till it hits the bargain bin.

I have no doubts that for a JRPG this will probably be the best so far this generation. Still won't be no Suikoden 2, that's for sure ;)

The graphics of the Final Fantasy series have always been top-notch. No other video game on the same console could compete with them. Then, after the fusion of Squaresoft and Enix, the content of the games turned worse gradually. And now not even the graphics stick out in the mass of good games we have this generation. Sad, very sad.

SE need to stop posting bullshots because they taint the impressions of what are otherwise great looking screens.

i think the screen looks good, because its actual gameplay not like other games showing only bullshots.

Well, the polycount from faces of the charakters or better the detail level is higher during cutscenes. Real time cinematics representing in-engine moments, but not actual in-game graphics (a battle with monsters etc.). And the battles don't look that amazing. The effects are nice, yes. But I expected more.

Square used the same system for Final Fantasy X, X-2 and XII. But these games were on PS2 and they looked great for this generation.

With a PS3/Xbox360 there shoud be more possible.

Funny how much the hype goes down for a game when it's no longer a console exclusive. Interesting to see more honest opinions...

Well, I think I'll buy it anway. Graphics arent that important (but I expected more ). And I'll buy it for PS3 altough 360 is my favourite console. I dont really want to change discs like you have to do it in Star Ocean TLH just because you try to visit an earlier place in the game.

It doesn't look like super CG from space, but it still looks alright. I understand that people got all excited since square, as per usual, just cranked out a shitload of prerendered stuff but anyone even remotely connected with reality should ahve realized since the first picture dropped that square are in the games business and not in to magic magic miracles. It doesn't look like the pictures, it still looks good alright and will most likely be a good game for those who appreciate the genre so just shut the f**k up with the whining and play the game.

It's about on the same level as Lost Odyssey. Maybe slightly better graphically, with bigger environments and better animation. Still, this is something I noticed quite a while ago.

Seems that long RPG's and great graphics don't exactly go well together these days (the graphics are still good, but it's still much worse than what plenty of other games offer).

it needs to do a lot to top deamon;s souls imo, but i'm sure it'll be great if you like that sort of combat.

what i find weird is that the demo that was released with the advent children movie on PS3 looks pretty damn impressive, now it looks a bit average. what the hell happened? between then and now?

It does look rather mediocre as far as in-game graphics go, although cutscenes (cgi and non-cgi) look pretty awesome.

Looks amazing as usuall...comparing this to LO is ridiculous, as it absolutely crushes it graphically...infact, from the demo it looks better than 90% of ps3 and 360 games I've played

that is the problem tho, the demo looked great, but now it doesnt. if the word "downgrade" was to be thrown at any title it would be this one.

Lost Odyssey was damn fun though. Never finished it for some reason. Got to the end and quit, was a pretty long game.

Sure will be fun to play another Final Fantasy since 7.

I was enjoying LO until I got to some worm( early in the game) that had these bugs with it. God, I got so damn fustrated( every time I tried to fight it it took 30 mins), NO game should be so friggin' cheap. I don't have that kinda time anymore...

That part pissed me off as well, you had to grind for a couple of hours an then look up how to kill it. That's the way I did it. Funny thing is, it's one of the first bosses, and one of the hardest.

its been a while (i played the japanese version), but if its the boss i think you're talking about, that wasn't really that bad. the thing that gets people with that boss is being one of the earliest, up to that point you were able to get by without really understanding the cover system for your rows, and that was one of the first bosses that really hammered you if you didn't watch your people.

Played the demo that came out some months ago, and certainly the game has indeed come a long way. Despite the fact that I am not interested in these type of games I will still buy it for appreciation purposes.
