Wasteland 2 will be funded in a few days as more than 2 million dollars is pledged of $900,000 goal thanks to the funding platform Kickstarter. InXile will go back to the roots for the direct sequel of the post-apocalyptic RPG, turn based, tactical and a deep storyline. While waiting for the production to begin (which the devs hope to last 18 months), the studio shares the first art by Andrée Wallin.

Cool and everything but is that enough money there. How big is the team working on this as i can imagine with the sort of wages needed, that may get gobbled up pretty quick?

I'm guessing that they are not making a AAA betesda size game :P

I imagine no voice overs and simpler graphics cuts the costs a LOT. With a samller team, you cuold totally make a great game for 2 million dollars

Getting sick of hearing about kickstarter now tbh. One dev uses it and manages to score big and now it seems every day there is another one begging for funding...urgh.

So what's wrong with that? Developers that want to make games that publishers won't fund ask for funding form the fans. It's great if you ask me. I mean...yay this kinda shit and screw EA with tehir Dead spacamajigga 43 and Gears of War 45.

Some developers would like to make games that wouldn't get funded by publishers, so now that people have discovered the power of Kickstarter, they're going for it.

Don't really see your fuss with it. I wouldn't be surprised when thatgamecompany does it since their Sony contract is over.

I agree. What's wrong with asking for funding via Kickstarter? Or are you just against "mainstream" (for obvious reason *rolls eyes*)?

I'd say it's more mainstream to be in favor of big name publishers

Kickstarter if anything is in support of independents(nce)

And when they do i'll be just as annoyed hearing that yet another bum developer is begging for money via kickstarter. That is essentially what they're doing, sat on a street corner with a cardboard sign. I read that some dev was selling his entire G1 transformer collection to fund his game. I can appreciate something like that, self sacrifice to fund something you are confident in and passionate about. Begging for money? Notsomuch. It's a fad method of getting funding. And the sooner it fucks off the better....just wont be anytime soon, hell, i'm sure sometime today we'll hear about another irrelivant developer begging for funding for his irrelivant idea from a 20 year old franchise.....yey. *sigh*

Don't see why asking your customers to commit money to the project is worse than pitching to a publisher? You are still just asking someone for money. This way at least the studio/developer has creative control over their project.

Actually its like a developer asking for funding off a customer rather than asking for money from a publisher. Don't see the big deal tbh. You like a type of game that they are gonna make, put down 15 buck. Get the game and help the funding in the process.

Publishers don't have the input of "get the game out we need sales!" part so why not. Don't wanna fund it, fine. Personally i think it's a great way to redo older games or make sequels. All goes to digital retail so they make the most profit :)

KORNdog doesn't seem to understand Kickstarter on its most basic levels. The tops for funding you can ask for is small, around 1 million. These developers aren't begging, they're just wanting to make smaller games on the side and ideas they're passionate about where they don't have to stuff perfunctory features a publisher requires like you'd need in a $60 retail release.

These are mostly PC games, and publishers don't give a shit nowadays about the PC market which is the third wheel. I don't see the harm to catering to an old-school hardcore base that has more money than the dispensable cash with teenagers have, which are the main demo for console games.
