We still have a few First Look articles up our sleeve, so here are Seth's first impressions on Activision's line-up, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Prototype 2.
It is quite clear that with Modern Warfare 3, Infinity Ward and Activision plan to take Call of Duty players to places they’ve never been before – literally speaking, underwater. Part of the demo I was shown at E3 had the player working underwater in a flooded New York subway system, wearing some sort of high tech underwater stealth combat gear, working to place explosive on a Russian submarine. After planting the explosive, things took another surprising turn, this time toward high speed action. The player emerged on the surface and took control of a raft outfitted with a motor and began racing through the New York harbor toward the safety of rescue helicopters. This action set piece was especially impressive with realistic water dynamics and even more pace than before.
The second part of the demo also features some surprises for those familiar to Modern Warfare. This time set in London on the river Thames, the group worked to track down a van that was thought to be full of illegal contraband. After finding the van empty however, the demo turned in to a shootout. A support helicopter rained down fire and bullets flew everywhere to allow the team to reach the entrance of the subway system. Eventually the enemy took a subway car and tried to escape. The team loaded in to trucks and raced through crowded subway tunnels in pursuit, avoiding oncoming trains and frightening bystanders on subway platforms. It was an intense scene, to say the least. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set for release this holiday season and from what was shown at E3 Activision should have a huge hit on their hands.
Prototype 2 stars James Heller, a former US Marine. After the events of the first game, Heller returns home only to find that his family has been killed by the plague, a virus carried by Alex Mercer, the first game’s main character. This sets the stage for what the developers promise is a game of ultimate power and destruction, lots and lots of destruction. The developers, Radical Entertainment, have taken player complaints in heavy consideration and have looked to build on the original while improving it in the ways gamers have asked for. This includes an expanded character upgrade system which should give this sequel a bit more depth.
The demo opened in one of the zones of New York Zero, where military personnel had just been informed of a virus outbreak. The crowd was in a panic and the military brazenly opened fire on them. Realizing the scientist in the crowd had knowledge of what was going on, Heller destroyed and consumed the soldiers to gain control of the situation. In mere moments, it was clear just what was meant when we were teased with the words ultimate power. Later in the demo, we saw a rocket launcher ripped from a tank and used as a weapon by the player. The effects, as you can imagine, were devastating. Prototype 2 is scheduled for release sometime in 2012.

Im waiting for some gameplay!!
Prototype demo..couldnt care less
Multi.. well i dont think IW can be touched when it comes to producing well designed maps..i'm hoping they've not lost that spark. And spec-op's was great fun with a mate in MW2..so more of the same is what i want.
Activision are ofcourse an evil company milking their brands for all they're worth..but objectively they're no different than any other games publisher these days. Take a look at what capcom have been doing this gen, or EA, MS, sony. Atleast with Activision you're not getting a game that has locked contents on the disc. In a way they're slipping in their evilness..and had better be careful if they want to hold their evil crown.
Still, you have a valid point in that there is room for both games, and as long as they are still well made there is no reason to hate...
It's actually pretty funny EA shoe-horning multiplayer in their games (dead space, ME) because multi sells...yet with BF3 it's the other way around. Not saying that SP wont have substance..but the contrast is interesting.
Anyway, it still escapes me how EA is the hero and Activision is the villian of this generation.
I also really hope theres not the foolishness that followed Bad company 2 with BF3. I dont want game types locked and then promoted as free dlc for the first 6 months of BF3's release. I want all that i've actually paid for.. not drip fed what i've paid for when EA believe i deserve it. Especially if theres only a few maps on the disc (refering to BC2 again)
And, I don't know if it's just me, but god damn the pacing of the SP in COD games just feels so janky; I constantly feel like I am playing it wrong.
If I wanted something like that, I would watch a real movie like Black Hawk Down or The Rock.
The only thing I can say anything positive about CoD MP is the fact you play as a lone wolf rambo-like soldier and its fast paced (until campers infest their shit in the game, and any other shooter).

MW3=same old shit, no improvments at all since COD 4
i liked the story of the first [PROTOTYPE] but i hated the controls :( hope they do a better job this time.
Then, all of the sudden, you get good at the game.
One thing I will agree on is that there were too many redundant powers available.
Oh, and the draw distance was ugly.
carry on.

Controls was a bit wonky, but once you learn them within 1-2 hours its no issue anymore.
Though I have all of Prototype's powers except the speed, strength and mobility, for me that is Prototype.
I dont use his mutation powers at all to take down enemies, unless thats the only way to kill them (mutant type of enemies).
I admit the game can be daunting, but it gives you choice over everything. It is a players game
As much as I love lightning powers, Infamous is so boring to play (played both).
So slow, nothing "epic" about it, just meh.
With Prototype you get that chaotic, action paced fast character that doesnt hold back on anything and you get that full fledge city action you see in superhero movies as well.
It literally doesnt take more than 5 minutes to have a few choppers and tanks to come at you.
IMO, I prefer Prototype because I prefer a more real badass character that isnt nerfed as a power character and needs to be "juiced up" every minutes.
