GSY Video PC

While PC gamers are still eargerly waiting for Ubisoft to patch Watch_Dogs, a modder decided to try to give the game its E3 2012 visuals by tweaking a bunch of things which had not been activated in the original files and by adding things as well. Here is a short video we made using the mod so you can see what it's all about.
Update: Second video added with a bit of rain.

This is stone nuts. I setup this mod and the game runs a lot smoother and looks A LOT better.

Thanks for the heads up Drift :).

That's the great thing about it, not only does it make the game look much better, it also helps improve performance and eliminate some of the stuttering.

Thanks for the video, hope you guys can make and post more in different settings.

The lighting makes his clothes look truly real.
But if you want a list:

Included in this mod(not all features are available yet):
-Changes to the default fog values
-Enabled bokeh DOF for the main cameras
-Stuttering Improvements
-E3 2012 Bloom
-Performance Improvements
-Enabled Headlight Shadows
-LoD Changes
-Reflection changes
-Added 3 new cameras to the game(closer, normal, further)
-Rain changes(High quality rain drops, properly reacting to light, etc)
-LensFlares(WIP)
-Lighting changes(TESTING AND WIP)
-Civilians density changes

Can't give you a depth technical analysis, but from someone who watched all the videos of WD on Gamersyde, the game looks way better than the PC videos. It's really on the level of the E3 2012 Demo.

Thanks for the videos, Drift. And those 5 images in the article are amazing, specially the one with the boat. Very, very realistic.

Also, the modder discovered some files pertaining to animations, so for example, that "hands up" animation from aiden before he does the blackout is one of them.

Hm... maybe they'll also be able to bring back parallax mapping?! :)
I hate those ("next gen", lol) flat 2D textures (e.g. the cobble stone streets)

So obviously even the new consoles are already holding the PC back again and this whole fiasco is proof... Most if not all of this was simply enabled or changed values within the code. The PC version DID look better at one time, but to keep in parity with the new consoles they stripped some things down after undoubtedly running into frame rates issues on the console versions. God forbid that a PC game be allowed to look better than the new consoles. I have a PS4 and love it. I'm even considering buying a used Xbone in November for Halo, but as a PC gamer I'm getting really tired of dealing with shit like this.

The depth of field effect is horrible; the headlights on cars often glitch now. This mod is nowhere near the E3 2012 visuals.

Still a bit better than out-of-the-box Ultra graphics, if you can stand the bugs.

you guys need to change the title for this article, this is not a mod, labeling it like that is only gonna give ubisoft a free pass on the matter, this are files that are within the game and are being discovered by users and turned on, witch means the game was dumb down on purpose, a mod is the creation of content for a product and this in now way does that, please fix the title, read this article, it properly names the article, the way it should be

Mod (video gaming) from Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mod_%28video_gaming%2...

Extracts from Wikipedia:

"A mod or modification is the alteration of the program code of a video game in order to make it operate in a manner different from its original version."

"Unofficial patch:

An unofficial patch can be a mod of an existing game that fixes bugs not fixed by an official patch or that unlocks content present in the released game's files but is inaccessible in official gameplay. Such patches are usually created by members of the game's fan base when the original developer is unwilling or unable to supply the functionality officially."

TheWorse, the user who created this MOD, did MODIFY the code of the game, plus he also added NEW features, therefore, this is a MOD, a MODification of the vanilla game (original state of a game). Basically, something different than what is in the retail box or what you download.

Hope that clarifies it.

You guys are arguing about semantics here. Dualshock knows what he's saying. A lot of games ship (or used to!) with software development kits, and are designed to allow for modification. Unofficial patches, like this or DSFix for example, exist to correct issues in the game that the developer refuses to. That's definitely worth mentioning.

It makes it a little more difficult to give Ubisoft your money.
