The excellent F.E.A.R. was announced as a launch title for PS3 yesterday, and these five images were released. For some reason it looks like these images are captured using an analog HD capture system like the one I use for my videos, so they look much softer than our usual framebuffer captures.

Ladies and gentleman we have the first bad port for the PS3 =(
I'd give the textures the benefit of the doubt because of the soft captures but it actually looks like they downgraded some of the geometry too. Look at this pic from the 360 version:

and then at the PS3 version:

The helmet in the 360 version is round and the PS3 version is pointed. In the PS3's defense, Condemned (1st attempt with this engine) had more than it's fair share of rough corners on the 360--but I thought this was what the "delay" from spring was supposed to remedy.
All the edges are blurred by exactly 4 pixels. You can see on the vertical edges that the original image is the same resolution.
So....
It's fair to assume this is what it actually looks like.
I guess it hides the jaggies. Mostly.
(unfortunatly we are seeing more of this blurring on the PS3... No doubt because of the limited memory bandwidth making antialiasing more difficult). The 360 has the advantage that the extra bandwidth required for AA only hits the EDRAM, and the AA resolve happens on chip, so the output image is native resolution, not AA resolution. Ie the bandwidth hit for AA is basically zero. - thats ignoring tiling, but thats another matter)
peace
you can't blame people for their feelings about the PS3. people should very well expect much, much more out of it since that is what was promised time and time again, and lied about time and time again. not to mention, the price warrants a system that should hands down beat the 360 in visuals. Sony deserves a kick in the balls for this, and i think that's what they might get because i don't think people are going to fall for it the second time around and waste their breath trying to come up with crap like 'well the ps3 can do particles better!'
