Xbox 360 PS3

Codemasters and Asobo are visibly quite happy to announce that Fuel is the biggest console game every created with a playable field of 5,560 square miles (14400 km²). And as a way to celebrate their entry in the Guiness Book of record, 3 new screens are available.
Update: Some people wondered why there wasn't a video to prove their claim once and for all. Well, here it is!

Very impressive. Would make a good map for other types of games as well, could be an interesting premise to do a sequel in a different genre.

flight simulator games may have bigger map, altough it's not as detailed of course.
I thought the biggest "map" in a game would be the old game Frontier: Elite 2 with thousands of star systems and planets ಠ_ಠ

shade360: The music is Attack! Attack! - Honesty. Although it's some kind of instrumental version in this video.

Hehe, Frontier was really huge, and "real" flight simulators had bigger maps for sure, but they're talking -console- games here.

Playable eh? Hmm. No "reset to track" barriers? That could be interesting.

the 1st screen is awsome, but the 3rd screen is just plain awful, but will be getting it for pc so hopefully I wont get times when it looks as bad as the 3rd screen.

Shouldn't be difficult. Open notepad, smash your face into the keyboard till it bleeds, hit ctrl+s, write to disc, got yourself a Motorstorm killer.

lol. booth games are pc games and no console games. the flight simulators have more space but they come on much more dvds. the version of north germany comes 4 dvds!!! and frontier. elite 2 is an rts game with loading screens for every map and its still has no 14.000km² because the technology are only bitmaps.

today i think we can put over 140.000.000.000.000km² in bitmap graphics on a cd. the only games i know with nearly, nearly, nearly such an big world are smugglers run (1&2) on ps2 they have about 20-30km² and btw. far cry 2 has 50km². so 14.000km² are huge

Truth.

This video hyped me up like crazy.. I had no idea it was ONE big map, where you can drive from the snowy mountains to the beaches, in one sitting..
I thought it was just like any other game, you know, with big levels like "Desert, Avalance Mountain" and stuff like that. Not one single open world, wow...

So basically this is Oblivion turned into a racing game (and bigger). I'm amazed..

I'm sure there are those in specific races that takes place on specific tracks and roads in the world. Or at the very least a heavy time-penalty for straying outside the designated roads or circuit.
However there are open race modes like something similar to baja or point to point races, or just free roam.

So yeah, it is one open world, but surely there must be restrictions in tight races to prevent cheating.

Why would taking the fastest route possible be "cheating"? Open races are just that—open.

Also, I'm wondering if the weather effects, like tornadoes, will actually mod the environment. If I see one of those huge tornadoes going over one of those billboards, and it stays in place, that's really going to break any sense of immersion or the power of such natural phenomena.

Thing is that they won't. Motorstorm really has its own feel, especially with the vehicle handling.

fixed.
But... Even though I really like Motorstorm and play it a lot with friends and sometimes think, that this is a game that will never get boring, I still think, Fuel looks alot like Motorstorm and has larger enviroments (because of it's unique technics) and advenced graphics... But I can not really believe that it will really be as cool as it looks like at the moment...
Maybe it will really be as cool or maybe not, but I think, that Motorstorm will still have some advantages.
