Insomniac has released seven screenshots of Fuse while the trailer will be available at a later date. The game revolves around Overstrike 9, an elite contact team called after, Fuse, a volatile alien energy source has fallen into the wrong hands. The title features coop, upgrades and skill trees for the class-based agents. Unfortunately, the game does not feature the Incredibles-esque art style that we saw in the first CG trailer. Set to release in March 2013.

Press release:

EA Partners and Award-Winning Insomniac Games Team Up to Deliver an Explosive 4-Person Co-Op Action Adventure Game with Fuse

A New Arms Race Begins when Fuse Launches March 2013

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--What happens when humans take possession of volatile alien technology they were never meant to have? Today, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) and Insomniac Games announced Fuse™, a 4-person co-op action shooter that thrusts players into the roles of four elite, covert agents with their own unique skills and experimental weapons. Formerly known as Overstrike, Fuse allows gamers to play as Dalton Brooks, Izzy Sinclair, Jacob Kimble or Naya Deveraux as they fight to protect mankind from a deadly alien energy source known as Fuse. Fuse is the first multiplatform release from Insomniac Games, the world-class developer known for creating AAA blockbuster franchises like Ratchet & Clank and Resistance. Fuse is scheduled to launch in March 2013 in North America and Europe.

“Fuse demonstrates what Insomniac does best: outlandish and gruesome weapons design, over-the-top action and a touch of humor,” said Insomniac Games’ Founder and CEO, Ted Price. “We’re especially excited to see how players utilize lethal teamwork by combining their Fuse weapons to stop a deadly arms race.”

“EA is honored to be working with world-renowned developer, Insomniac Games, to bring their first multiplatform release to players everywhere,” said Sinjin Bain, Vice President of EA Partners. “This studio is known for delivering high-quality, action-packed, and most importantly – fun – games. Fuse is on target to deliver that and more in March.”

Fuse is a 4-person co-op, story-driven, action game where even solo players can experience the unique attributes of each agent by using the game’s LEAP feature to switch between the four characters at will during combat. Each agent is equipped with unique skills and weapons not only integral for survival, but that also allows for unexpected and extraordinary results. Experimental Fuse weapons are powered by a volatile alien substance that gives players unique capabilities that expand their strategic options in and out of combat. Through lethal teamwork, players can complete objectives and kills to earn Fuse points for powerful upgrades. Players can also play online or offline and level up along unique character paths, allowing players to unlock more powerful Fuse-driven abilities as the game progresses. In addition, the game’s progression system is unified between different play modes, allowing players to continue improving their agents regardless of how they play.

In Fuse, the members of contact team Overstrike 9 attempt to thwart a rogue paramilitary organization called Raven from stealing the Fuse source located deep within a classified government facility. Overstrike 9’s pursuit of Raven will take them around the world, from the fortified desert facility to underwater bases, island strongholds, icy mountain peaks, palatial hideouts and beyond. Later, as the team closes in on Raven, another more sinister enemy reveals itself as a truly horrendous global threat.

Created and developed by Insomniac Games, Fuse will be available in March 2013 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. Compare this to how it looked last year. It was lighthearted and had wacky faces, really Insomniac style. This looks generic as hell and way too serious, shame.

If this were any other studio than Insomniac I would tune it out right away but with their pedigree it deserves at least some benefit of the doubt.

Hardly a shit studio thus far although the Resistance series never did much for me, this looks much closer to a more realistic R&C. If that's the case it will be anything but "just another shooter" a description that fits mediocre crap like Spec Ops the line perfectly.

Side rant: Why can't concept designers figure out that a bullpup rifle designs need some space for the bolt group to operate (pic 3). You can't place the magazine/ ejection port so close to the butt plate, it makes no fucking mechanical sense whatsoever. Halo also fucks up this same detail...

Despite the naysayers the screens look interesting and so do the enemies

I'll reserve judgement till we see it in motion from a real perspective

Definitely generic looking, but I think people are overstating how stylistic it was previously (basically just in the faces, and not all that much). I think we will have to see it in motion to see if it has retained some of the personallity. Still, the e3 vid was THAT great...

Maybe. The problem is that what they are really good at is Ratchet. They proved with Resistance that they are so-so doing FPS games, although Resistance 3 was an improvement. Resistance 1 and 2 were very poor, mediocre in every regard.

When I first saw Overstrike, I was like "finally Insomniac goes back to their cartoony stylised look of their previous games and none of this Resistance realistic brown color palette".

I have a feeling either EA mandated a more mature look (just like they're doing for the new Army of Two game) or Insomniac leads have lost it.

Hmm....so is this something like borderlands, but with TPS-perspective, charter switching and a generic theme?

R1 was great, R3 was greater. R2 was a missfire. tried to hard to be COD. lost the charm of the first completely.

this looks kinda ass though. i expect a solid, if underwhelming TPS, akin to something like binary domain.

Looks better than Resistance but that's not saying much. Insomniac should of took a break from FPS (and R&C lol)

Prefer the style and vibrancy of the original trailer much better than this. Generic look now and doesn't look that great either. Resistance 3 had bags more style and atmosphere than this :/

I'm still not getting how different this looks than before. The original trailer looks nothing like TF2. All it really had was slightly exaggerated/cartoony faces. Even the armour here is very similar. Is there some footage I haven't seen? Brink was more stylized...

Insomniac pays a lot of money to keep those talented artists around. They finally let them do the high quality work they're being paid for to do, and what happens? They're shot down probably by some executive bigwig for being too "risky" and "out there". This is the reality of the AAA games industry. Incredible skill and talent backed up by enormous checks of dollars, all wasted for generic copycat bullshit.

The original trailer had TF2-like aspects to it, combined with added "real world detail" instead of TF2's color-and-brush-strokes textures. It looked more distinct, and honestly I felt the game would look somewhat like Brink. This... this looks more generic.
