Video Xbox 360 PS3

EA and DICE unleashed Battlefield 1943 on Xbox Live Arcade and PSN this week, and what a great game this is! Included is three maps from Battlefield 1942, with a fourth released probably next week. The last couple of days have mostly been about errors and problems for many of the players, with freezing, lag and server downtime. It has gotten better and better for each day though, with EA both doubling and now probably triple the amount of servers. I've had problem free sessions all day long so it seems like it works well now, at least in Europe. In short, to me Battlefield is still the game that produces the most fun shooting gameplay and 1943 continues with insanely fun hours to be had.

Yep, got it on PSN, other than my Top Squad trophy not unlocking, I had a problem free time and not only that, probably the most fun I had with a shooter in ages and at £10! wow.

It's absolutely amazingly balanced (thank GOD for quicker kills), the size is perfect and all classes are super fun to play.

Thanks DICE.
Hope to see all the improvements/ tweaks make it into Bad Company 2.

Yeah the EA really screwed up the first couple of days, underestimating demand. It is better now... but I've been getting the game freezing up my 360, so I have to restart the system to get it back and running. It freezes up big time... about 3 times in an hour's time last night. But it is a lot of fun.

Waiting until September to release it on the PC is a big mistake in my opinion. Pain in the ass for me to buy it on either console.

I had high hopes for this one 'cuz everyone kept talking about it, but when I got it... maybe I need to play more, but the only thing this has over Bad Company is the quicker kills and airplanes( which are insanely hard to use, and don't seem to do much damage anyway). BC is Waaay better than this, IMO- Only game I still try to play once a day...

I personally love BC but after playing this it's hard to turn back, I hope BC2 will be as tight as this game, especially the amount of hit points you have in BC is an upset. Would buy DLC maps for this game for sure.

Also the planes are usefull if someone capable is flying them. They can be a major annoyance and make you a lot of kills once you master them.

I have had more fun with this game than ive had with Red Faction or Prototype, seriously.. Granted it is a smaller game in every way, but the fun-ratio is just massive.. Only 3 maps until the 4th one is unlocked, but they are each so well made.

And the planes... Perfect feel, i find myself flying nonstop all the time lol. I just love doing strafing runs at ppl and dive bombing tanks ^_^
The best way to turn around quickly for another dive bombing run seems to be to pull off an immelman :=)

It can't really touch Warhawk, but it's still alright. Hopefully it encourages developers to release more full-blown games on downloadable services rather than the usual shitty arcade games that swamp XBLA for example.

I agree with Frozpot, BC is still the better game. Kills aren't really satisfying at all and you never really get the sense that you're hitting someone.
It feels like a mix of BC and 1942, but the maps to me are too big for only 24 people. I liked the map designs a lot better in BC.
Also limiting the classes down to 3 takes away a lot of variety and makes things border on too simple and gets boring.

Planes basically function just as they did in 1942. It makes me miss the bombers a lot.

you don't feel kills hell i feel them more in here, and map size is spot on, hell bc seemed to large actually in some cases, i mean in 1943 i had 2 aircraft fly over my head one chasing the other banking and turning, a sniper shooting at me, and some idiot tossing grenades over my head.. now that was impressive BC had some really impressive moments but they were far and few between but still an awesome game, 1943 its like BC but those events happen way more often....

also whoevers bitching that planes are too hard are stupid, inverse your stick, and walla, i can dogfight the shit out of the airspace now i swear i spend 90% of my time in the air, and as for damage, its spot on, i can rittle away boats with the guns, the bombs take a lot of practice because your speed influences where they hit very much and also the timing.

BC was quite fun but could have been a lot better in my opinion, mainly because it took you years - slight exaggeration there - to kill someone. It was ridiculous and pretty much killed the experience.

From the short time I've played it, 1943 is much better in that regard and I had more fun with it in half an hour than I did in BC.

If you know how to headshot BC kills were relatively easy.

The only thing they needed to take out of BC were recon grenades. It made recon too good.

You're not really missing out on much. I actually still think BC is a better game and I have zero love for Bad Company. If you have no preconceptions on what a Battlefield game should be, it's a pretty solid online shooter, especially for a $15 download, but if you're looking for a remade BF1942 it's not going to fulfill your needs. Planes aren't really that hard to use once you configure the controls in a manner that suites you.. all of the vehicles actually handle pretty well.. though the MG on the tank seems a little weak (driver) and it annoys me endlessly that you can't duck inside the passenger's seat. It also strikes me as a little lazy that they gave us four maps with the same tileset. Once they completed their theme knocking out maps like Wake (which they've remade a billion times) probably took less than a few hours each.

The utter lack of variety in the infantry squad gameplay is killer though. Three classes, one of which is basically built for lone wolves, and none which fall into a support role. The lack of medics and support kits just makes the game a much duller experience. Unlimited ammo and regenerative health have exactly the effect on this game that all of the old timers feared it would.

Ultimately, I just hope these games have very little influence over the future of the Battlefield franchise, but this probably is the future of the franchise. Prove me wrong DICE.

nice video, just watching this, is wonderful, if the wall breaks as the tank shoot you at the end, that was so damn real.
To bad the video is not 629 Minutes long ;)
Just 6 mins :(

Are you serious?
Put a nylon stocking over the tv or something, lol.

Heck you know what i like most about this game? That its bright. All the maps are sunny, clear and beautiful. No fucking night maps or rainy maps.

I keep trying to get into this one, and it isn't working. For some reason it just feels old and limited. BC's multiplayer is a cut above this one, and for some reason I kill much better in BC even though it typically takes more bullets( sans headshots)- it just feels better, IMO. I also think there are waay too few players per map for this game type. I keep trying to get into it because I spent 15 bucks on it, but I just find myself putting on BC after about half an hour of spawn-dying and capturing a base only to sit and wait by myself for an enemy, or run off and have someone steal it back a minute after I leave. OH yeah, the respawn times are too long for how easy it is to die...

Tried the demo and found it very easy to put down after five minutes...not sure I will ever bother picking it back up either it just seemed a very plodding and tedious experience to me, nowhere near as fun as other multi FPS titles I have tried in the past.

I guess devotees of the BC series will most likely think it's great though.

I'm not a devotee, but it grabbed me from the word go. I'm used to the claustrophobic CoD maps, actually having space for strategy is what sold the game for me. Plus the sense of teamwork beats a good deal of other shooters out there. Never played BC though, but after this I'll be seriously considering BC2.

I enjoy it for the most part but I wish weapon damage was stronger.

Plus it seems 99.9% of people on 360, of all places, don't even talk to get a strategy going... Instead you get silence and teammates destroying team vehicles and or taking them to fool around etc making it harder to win at times too many. Because of this trend, I only play with a party.
