Xbox 360 PS3

Sega was showing a playable version of its next-gen Sonic at the Japan Expo, an event happening this weekend in Paris. Here are two videos (X360 version), showcasing the two characters of the game in two different levels. A third video is also on its way, and should please those for who "Sonic" rhymes with "Speed"...
Update : The second video is now online for good this time.
Update 2 : Third video added.

Man i can't wait for this game..

I wish they had concentrated on just Sonic for this game though, I'm not liking the White hedgehog much, would have prefered Knuckles or Tails as a second character personally.

As good as the Xbox was, did it really take the power of the 360 to make a good Sonic game. I think things were just held back because of multiplatform development. The Xbox never got its chance to really shine. Now everyone is surprised when they see titles with quality that could have been done on the first console.

All these great vids, we are getting spoilt today :)

Really looking forward to this and it will be good to have Sonic back.
The white hedgehog reminds me of Mew 2.

I'm not sure the reason is because of multiplatform development since this game is going to be for ps3 aswell (I think?) - maybe just the arrival of next gen opened their eyes to more possibilities... who knows. This version of Sonic looks fantasic though.

Oh and btw does anyone else feel like its E3 again, lol. There's been so many updates lately, xboxyde rawks :)

I think what he meant is that last gen multiplatform was held back by the PS2, this gen the PS3 and 360 are closer in terms of power so multiplatform games won't suffer such an obvious fate. (at least we hope)

I hated the tails/eggman missions, they were lame. The Knuckles/bat hooker's missions were cool because they had the cool music, but the beeping got annoying, and it was repetetive and didn't have great bosses. I hope they mix up the gameplay and make it a lot more fun than SA 2.

The bit where you say "gameplay is also good" perhaps.

I think for many they still remember Sonic in his Megadrive/Genesis days, although Sonic Adventure was really good, since then they have dropped the ball.

Sega doesn't seem to care much now that they aren't developing games for their own system. (or so it seems)

Seriously this game is NOTHING like sonic adventure and that pisses me off. I've literally been waiting for another game like sonic adventure for so long and it appears this game will be yet another crappy shadow the hedgehog type deal. Its so crappy man for sega to be dropping the ball on SONIC of all games they must have something huge in the works.

How do you know it won't be like Sonic Adventure? They aren't even done with the game yet. We haven't even seen everything, so chill out.

Looks interesting, but it reminds me a lot of why I loved Mario 64 and how the mechanics paid homage to the timing/distance mechanics of the old 2D games and this is just more open.

And at 1:00... poor filtering strakes again. Note the roadmark. :/

Sonic and Mario are in a different class, especially since going 3D..

Sonic doesn't have the attention to detail that Mario does.

Looks pretty cool, but why do they make it so easy to fall to your doom like Sonic Heroes? Takes all the fun out of the game, one mistake and you die!

Looks like this could be the best sonic yet! It seems like it's mixing it up quite a bit from the previous titles.

As a HOOOGE Sonic fan I'm obviously pretty excited by this. Thing is, when they first showed screens of Sonic Adventure 2, that felt weird aswell. The screens looked empty, largely focused on Shadow and Sonic, and it seemed to have done away with all things Adventury. The final product was obviously more like SA1 than expected, and I think this might be a similar deal.

I think the biggest issue with 3D Sonic games is that they try to be really fast AND unforgiving in the same way the 2D games were. Needless to say, in a 3D space there are about a billion ways to screw up compared, and the controls have quite frankly been something of a twitchy mess throughout these 3D endeavours. That said, both SA1 and 2 had quite good fast paced gameplay, and the thing that really messed up Heroes was the team mechanic that while a good idea was implemented badly. Why not just have a set button for each character when you use them all to rotate anyway? Mind bogglingly stupid.

Sonic Advance 1-3, Sonic Battle, Sonic Riders and Sonic Rush have all been good or brilliant though, so I wouldn't really complain too much. If this turns out pants there's always Sonic Wildfire that already has a warmer, more natural look, and with its on rails approach it's sure to be an insanely fast AND perfectly controllable experience.

Either way I'll gobble it up as long as it's Sonic. :O :| :)

Sonic Adventure 2 I thought was good as well, since then it seems like they are trying too many directions with this game
I'm a big Sonic fan as well, and personally I knew I had to get next gen just to be able to play the new Sonic titles, it was a big reason for me
Sega needs to bring back the Chao raising, and allow for trade over marketplace, that would be insane
Not only that but chao races/competitions over live
Quit trying to create new characters that somehow fit "current trends" and just stick with the original 3 everyone knows and loves
But I have no doubt this game will bring Sonic back in good graces, their has been too much outcry after games like Heroes. With the name back to its original state lets hope this means they are trying to fix his good name
