Xbox 360 PS3

Here is a short video of Virtua Tennis 3, which was also in Sega's PS3 showroom. Even if the ball's physics looked a bit weak sometimes, the game seemed like a huge leap over Top Spin 2.

Are the 360 and PS3 versions still graphically different? Since the PS3 game is being first platformed by AM3 and the 360 version get the "PORT". That is it say.. will look worse.

Wauw, I'm impressed!!! Looks *a lot* better then Topspin2.. :P

Only things I don't like though is the way the ball has a yellow trail, that's so arcady, and how there's still no skidmarks made on the clay, that's so not next-gen.. Other then that from what I can see in this movie this game looks awsome.. If the gameplay and online are any good aswell I might even buy it despite already owning Topspin2..

Well, the series were born in the arcade and if they take that feel and look of the game then it won't be a a true Virtua Tennis. Gameplay wise they don't need to change anything, since I still prefer Virtua Tennis 2 over any other tennis game.

Animations are not what I had hoped for, they really need to work on that more than anything else.
Graphics look nice though, but the animations just kill it for me...

Give them a little more time, man. SEGA is doing their best to get back up to speed. Look towards March 07. ;)

BTW the game looks good. There are some subtle improvements that need to be made, but I'm sure it'll be great when released.

As Far As I Know.

anyway, i would have thought the ps3 version would look slightly better as the arcade version is made on the lindbergh machines which use nvidia chipsets meaning the transition should be smoother to the ps3 compared to switching to an ATI based chip in the 360

or am i wrong ?

Are the animations better than Top Spin? Are they? Cause that's all I really care about. I couldn't care more about the graphics on character models.

Edit: After seeing the vid, the animations are slightly better. But ball physics is CRAP, it feels like a ping pong ball boucing on a table tennis table! The arcady, unrealistic diving and shots seem like a lot of fun, might give this one a whirl.

if topspin had anything good, it was the animations...they are very smooth, though perhaps not varied enough between each player...not sure whether this is an animation or gamesplay problem, but also in topspin you always seem to be making your character move back to the baseline as they always take a few steps forward every shot
so my guess would be that the animations won't be better, but it will probably be more responsive and more fun!

Well the have sucked since the Dramcast failed and they had to merg with Sammy.

I think they could turn it around with VF5, VT5 and Sega Rally, if they take their time and don't rush them out.

VT has always been the better tennis game.

Just to clarify....to me, the seperate animations look good, but the transitions between those animations are horrible.

Unfortunately this goes for almost any game out there, I'd hoped we'd see major improvements in that regard this gen, but I guess it ain't gonna happen for a while yet...

Fifa 07 does a good job with the transitions in animations.

Plus this game is a port afterall. Assassin's Creed has incredible transition animations.

I don't know about Fifa 07, but yeah, Assasin's Creed does this very well indeed, well...atleast the main character, the NPC's animations/transitions are not so good, at all (very twitchy).
Come to think of it, POP has pretty fluid animations/transitions as far as I can remember, and that's developed quite a while back allready.
So I would say it should be possible to do much better this time arround, but barely any devs out there are doing it for some reason.

I guess I stand corrected then... ;)

So gameplay only matters with "arcade games"...right..!

These are your words, not mine. : |

I think you understood pretty well that what I meant, but still I will explain it just in case. In most arcade games responsive and intuitive gameplay is almost a rule and things like realistic animations may actually interfere with it as they are more related to realistic gameplay or simulation. So I think it’s not a surprise they are not very present in this game.

[sarcasm]Really? People discuss things as animation quality in forums? :0 [/sarcasm]
Seriously, I know my “tone” may have been a bit off and I apologize for that, but the question was for people to think again if it is worthwhile to discuss the quality of the animations in this game. It’s subjective so I didn’t expect a response : |
Ridiculous? Ridiculous is someone that doesn’t even try to think about someone else’s words and acts “I’m serious Mr. Policeman”.

What I'm pointing out is that, imo, this can't be considered an arcade game, I mean, just look at it.
It's pretty clear that they're aiming for a "realistic tennis" experience, not some "arcadey" game that barely touches on a few aspects of tennis.

And like I said, the animations themselves are very good, it's just the transitions between them that are under par (imo).
Also, look at how well they captured the players, courts, etc...
So that indicates they are putting an effort into making this game much more than just an arcade tennis game.

I can't understand how you think of this game as being an arcade game, because imo, it's closer to a "simulator" than an arcade game.

No they don't, they just make a lot of low quality software ;)

Seriously, they still produce some awesome stuff from their arcade divisions, and that's exactly what we're talking about right here.

VF5, VT5, and Afterburner are all pretty high up on my list, right now.
