GSY Review PC PS4 Xbox One

We spent the whole week end playing Just Cause 3 on PS4 and had a lot of fun, but sadly, it came with a price. If you want to find out why and you want to enjoy a few pretty nice videos, please follow us inside. Don't hesitate to share your thoughts too.
GSY Live: We'll be playing Just Cause 3 on Tuesday evening 9:30 GMT+2.

Verdict

Despite some rather unacceptable technical flaws, Just Cause 3 surpasses its predecessor with high flying stunts and even more exhilarating action. With its over the top scenarios which easily surpass the stupendously caricatured protagonist, the latest Avalanche title stands to please those who swear by the great Rico Rodriguez. The world is massive, rich in opportunities to go nuts, and just plain fun to play through. Of course, some of its activities can feel rather repetitive but, in the end, it's impossible not to come running back to Medici with a smile on your face. Ultimately, Just Cause 3 is the kind of game that's just loaded to the brim with joy – it's just a shame that it is partially spoiled by lengthy load times and frame-rate drops. Muy Rico!
  • On the plus side
  • A vast world
  • …and beautiful too
  • An impressive draw distance
  • Hitting the skies in the wingsuit
  • The wingsuit challenges
  • The physics based destruction engine and impressive explosions
  • No more Quick Time Events
  • Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun
  • Did I mention fun?
  • On the down side
  • No more sprinting and no rolling to dodge
  • No mini-map on the HUD
  • Land based vehicle, motorcycles – the absolute worst
  • Uneven visuals
  • Performance dips on PS4
  • Loading, loading, loading, loading – do I have to "press play on tape" here or what?!

It looks like the perfect game for playing for 2-3 hours every now and then just to have fun but I was worried that pacing, repetitiveness would be the biggest flaws of the game and based on reviews it unfortunately seems i was right. As whenever i was watching a gameplay video for like 30 min it looked like the best game ever but after that it was getting kinda boring even though the most ridiculous stuff were happening on screen. Its a shame because It definitely could have been a GOTY contender if the variety and story missions were better. Still buying it though as i loved just caused 2.

I really hope more games use these latest features of havok engine soon. Maybe Uncharted 4 will to a smaller scale since it uses havok as well i believe and based on the e3 demo they are really pushing the destruction physics.

Just cause 2 had one of the worst implemention of quick time events. I don't mind quick time events at all when done right but im glad they removed them

30 seconds. When you try to beat a 50 second challenge (when you reach the end, which is not always the case) for more than an hour, just imagine the time you spend looking at a loading screen since you get one at every single retry.

It does improve it from what I've heard. There are no loading times on PC before and after cutscenes for example, and the initial loading time is only 2 or 3 seconds.

Bit of a shitty comment to make on someone else's review.

Anyway..
I can't bite another open world game atm but it's definitely near top of my list for when the open world itch comes back. Hoping they address loading and performance issues by then. I like Avalanche's track record so I have faith they will.
