A year after its PC release, The Swapper is back on Sony's consoles, with Curve Studios having ported the excellent indie game to PS4, PS3 and PS Vita. The game will be available on August 5 and will be cross-buy if you own several consoles. We were able to complete the Vita version to make sure the game was worth all the positive reviews. Verdict
Curve Studios undeniably did a very good job at bringing The Swapper on consoles. The Vita version does not only look good, it plays very well, although it's true that using the right analog stick isn't as responsive as a mouse (on PC) or the touch screen. Puzzles are smart and make a very good use of the swapping mechanics, forcing the player to think a bit differently each time. Sometimes progression is smooth, sometimes it can get trickier when one gets stuck because of a more challenging puzzle. The game is also very atmospheric with a sense of loneliness that the four clones you can create never manage to break. The Swapper is not just a good puzzle game, it is also granted with a good plot that will not just please science fiction fans, as it will leave all those who complete it thinking about its meaning and comparing their interpetation with others. With its unique visual style (the Theseus space station was modelled in clay and then digitalized), its unique gameplay and its great atmosphere, The Swapper should definitely be on your shopping list this summer, especially if you're far from home on vacation with Sony's handheld as your sole means of digital entertainment.
