Xbox 360

This time it's almost the end for the videos from the Game Convention, at least for the pure gameplay ones. Our friends Snoopers and Pipo are back to playing Virtua Fighter 5 "online" on the 360, this time via this high quality 60 fps video.

I recently rented this for the PS3, and it's horrible. I was digging the graphics in the videos, and I thought, hey, it's finally online, now I wonder if they updated the gameplay! So I tested it out. Nope. If you didn't like VF before, you won't like VF now. Sega: overly technical gameplay does not a good game make!

The least they could've done was made the Quest mode more accessible. It's boring, repetitive, and unlocking accessories takes way too long. Good graphics, horrible everything else. Bring on SC4 and DOA5 instead.

Can't say im a VF fan but its nice to see more fighters coming along to challenge DOA. Also nice to see they opted to include online play as its pretty much vital these days in keeping fighters alive and making them worth the price tag.

well clearly it does considering the critial acclaim the series gets...that combined with the fact its considered by many to be the pinicle of the fighting genre....i mean, if you like to button bash theres plenty of games out there for you..dead or alive, soul calibur. but please dont claim the game itself is doing something wrong when in fact you just dont have the patience or skill to play it properly.

I think this is the problem, many people think that button mashing makes a good fighter.

I always found DOA to more about luck than skill (and to some extent SC and Tekken), where VF is most deffinately the oppisite.

Sega have proven they ain't much good these days, but they still know how to make a top class fighter.

I don't think button mashing makes a good fighter, and to be truthful I've never played DOA by "mashing" in my life. I will agree that, to some extent, there is a luck factor in DOA (with the counters) but I guarantee you a skilled player will own a button masher any day of the week.
It seems any game is labeled "button masher" when your character punches or kicks when the button is actually pushed, instead of seconds later as part of some elaborate combo.

vf5 is vf5, very technical, be nice if they actually tried to bring it more upto date tho, doubt i'll be buying it, not overly keen on fighters

60 fps games look bad imho. And I'm dead serious. I would love to see a fighter with motion blur and huge hit-effects.

Excuse me, but I played about 100 matches in quest mode with a win ratio of over 90%, and lots of those matches were against the tougher AI. And guess what? I button mashed my way through it all, abusing shit like 2P. So you can button mash and win in any game. The main thing in VF5 is that it looks ugly and is boring, as opposed to DOA or SC where it looks spectacular and is fun. If I wanted to, I could dedicate hundreds of hours to mastering VF5, but that's just not how I roll.

Tekken owns VF! Still VF is a excellent 3D fighting game don't get me wrong here..but Tekken's Fighting engine is rock solid!

you can button mash your way through this game just like any other fighter. i've proven that. the thing that sucks about this game is the complexity of the graphics and animation are way behind the complexity of the gameplay. not to mention, it's just not FUN. if you create a game with very complex gameplay and it isn't fun, then it is still lacking. i like the self shadows though

so that was true then!

tekken 5 was a return to form, 4 is the only game that was lacking in the series imo. i just think the whole series now is a little old tho. but most fighters are like that tbh. DoA4, SC3, tekken5, while all competant fighters, they are all feeling a bit tired, same old moves, same old characters...it just gets tedious.

probably why i prefare 2D fighters since they're timeless.

@Blim: Is a 30 fps version planned as well? 60 fps HD videos just stutter as hell on my old Pentium 4 3,2 GHz.
What specs does a PC need to playback a 720p60 video anyway?

I got a C2D 2.33Ghz and can't play the MP4 file. 30Mbit is way to much for 720p@60FPS.
Maybe you guys should try to encode it at 15MBit, that should be enough for h.264.

Dont see how you can say DOA is getting old, each game the fighting system has evolved much further, (DOA3 was a rush job so I never include that) unlike soul calibur.

and LOL at the first comment, synce deserves an award!!

Exactly my feelings...Bringing back memories of Tekken 1 / 2 in the arcades and playing Tekken 3 for more then 1 and half years daily at home! Snif snif...

lol, just lol

I played VF for a week and it became my favorite fighting game ever. Stop assuming that your opinions are fact. You might wail to the heavens and weep about how boring YOU think it is but that doesn't mean everyone agrees with you (as you can see in this thread).

HILARIOUS!
