Konami is first out for the Game Convention in Leipzig, which should start a wave of content today. They released the following images of Silent Hill: Homecoming. Update: More GC images added.
My opinion of this game keeps switc hing between 'it's looking pretty good' and 'they're going to kill ruin it'. After this batch of shots I think its actually looking pretty good again.
The PS3 looks less washed out than the 360 version in these shots, but it might just be a case of ramping up the contrast a bit? I'm still not convinced by the HUD yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing how it feels when you're actually playing the game.
I've always had faith in the game. In case you are unaware, the Japanese developers REFUSE to fix their bad gameplay, especially the fighting system. It's been complained about for decades, and what do they do? Nothing. No respect for fans, or anyone for that matter.
Many people worship Japanese developers, but most developers seem to think they no longer hold the throne for game design, other than innovation; their content and gameplay is outdated, and they refused to change it. I'm happy a new team steps up to the plate.
If it loses the unique atmosphere that makes SH great, at least I'll be happy to know that I got to play a fun game for a change, rather than an interesting one that bordered on unplayable.
Well that was a nice statement boarding on general racism.
So there are no changes in gameplay in Japanese games? So Resident Evil 4, for example, played like previous RE games? The developers make games based on what their fanbase enjoy and, like pretty much any other developer in the world, what their tech is set up to handle.
If SH looses its atmosphere then it will loose the entire point of the game for most people.
Nutsack: well if they lose the atmosphere that essentially IS silent hill then the reason to be hyped about it is gone, it could just as well be resident evil or dino crisis? What people worry about is not that they are going to bring some new idea but that they are going to botch what essentially makes silent hill what it was. And believe you me, they will. Like they said in the last diaries here, i think this crap is closer to the movie than to the other games. Story and atmosphere is what made the previous games so good, and if you remove that and replace it with some minor gameplay improvements i'd say thats a step in the wrong direction.
Japanese developers and gamers have a different tradition than their western counterparts, that does not mean what you say is true though. I have to agree though that many japanese developers are lacking in the graphics department this gen.
I'm going into this game with EXTREMELY low expectations, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was disappointed. Japanese developers have always made better products and always will, I don't care what Nutsack says.
Some of the "More" GC images might look old, but Konami actually captured the exact same places as they did with the really old build. To show the difference I guess.

Washed out? Oh, you crazy delusional bastard. :)

Me likes to be a blinded fanboy?oh yes me likes
is it me or the ps3 version has less AA or something like that..I see his cloth more pixelized..like in his shoulders
What the heck? I say the PS3 looks a little less washed out and I'm suddenly a PS3 fanboy?! :)
For the record I don't even have a PS3 and hate the things after having to work with them. That said, if you look at the last images in the 360 images and PS3 images (with the boss hanging from the roof) the contrast seems different between the two, resulting in the blacks looking darker and the colours more vibarent on the PS3 shot. However, that might result in details being lost in the background.
Japanese developers are much better than western developers. Western developers mostly make games which includes a gun in one hand and a grenade in the other, and ofcourse everything has to be in First Person View, really sick of those wargames now.
I know people don't really like the visuals and stuff, but in motion this game is actually quite good looking imo. Aren't they using some new facial animation thing?
Oh and the munster designs are wicked.
Judging by the screenshots and videos and all the info about this game i know that this game wont be of same quality as past silent games except for part 4 wich sucked compared to the previous games.
And i hate that they have changed the camera view. The fixed cameras were great for silent hill because of the creepy angle shots. And some of the monsters look poor, but some some are good too, like that tall skinny monster and the spider thing.
But i believe in this game and i believe that it will turn out great after all, but not as great like a silent hill developed by team silent.

Yeah and japanese devs have a tendency to make games with adolescent boys with pointy blue hair that wield huge swords, mysteriously enough being the strongest warrior in all the world even though only like 14 years old, extracting revenge upon some evil guy for wrecking the starting village and killing his parents/uncle/foster parents, but i don't see you whining about that shit, and they've been doing it since 85! But i guess angry teens with pointy blue hair never goes out of style.
Japanese developers aren't "better", they are just different. In the case of Silent hill though, i can agree that the original team silent really did a fantastic job on the first three games, and partly on the fourth, but i don't think another japanese developer would do any better than the chums making this.

It doesn't for some reason or another in any of these images, hence the reason it looks shit in still shots.
