GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One

We're now back from Cologne but Gamescom is only about to start for you guys. We must first apologize for not putting up much content while we were there, but we had booked a lot of appointments hoping we'd be able to record direct feed footage and it paid. With no one in the press room and no time to go there to upload videos in between presentations, it was a hard choice to make, but we made it anyway because we wanted to choose quality and quantity over reactivity. It may not have been the wisest decision in terms of visitor number, but we felt it was the right thing to do to make sure you'd have more direct feed content with full audio, instead of the usual off-screen footage (which isn't allowed anymore in most cases anyway). Let's start our post-GC coverage with Assassin's Creed Origins on Xbox One X (1080p and 4K).

YES!!! Thank you so much, guys!

I was dying to see some truly high quality videos of Assassin's Creed: Origins - and also of Far Cry 5. Can you guys please elaborate with a mini preview or small summary of these 2 games? Pretty please. Would love to know the opinions of people who love these franchises and has played the games, to talk about them in more detail - what's changed and what remains the same.

Drift, don't worry about it. Given the choice, I much prefer quality and quantity - in that order - over immediacy. Great videos will remain great forever, while bad ones will remain bad forever as well. So please take your time when needed in the future.

there has definitely been a downgrade in the animation's department, compared to that of Watchdogs and Unity the parkour system looks like a huge step backward

They have a reason for that. Generally if you want to make a more action based game, animation has to take a back seat to function.

Unity's fighting mechanics were decent and never interfered with the free running, if anything, the superb animations made for more action-packed fight scenes.
I agree that animations in fighting sequences can be rather stiff as the game is now considered an RPG with a huge emphasis on damage exchange, however, it simply does not justify the lack of quality animations. Unity with all the issues it suffered from, still has some of the best animations that could only be rivaled by those of uncharted or Watchdogs

I don't like the UI or the map at all. Looks terrible.
I'll agree on the animation, it's less fluid and wonky but the worst seem the sounds for the weapons. Maybe it's the video compression that's making it so but they don't sound heavy or having impact.
Finally, the bow sounds are ridiculous. No bow sounds like that!
Despite that, I still want to play it, don't know why. Probably because of the setting.

Unity is also quite sluggish because of its priority on animation. I still consider it to visually be the best AC because of all the things it was trying to push and personally one of my favourites.

A lot of previous AC games locked you into an animation and it's something they're avoiding with AC: Origins as they want the player to feel responsible for their actions.

UbiSoft have proven themselves time and time again in the animation department that I can accept it as a deliberate design choice, the animation may improve in the lead up to release but I'm not holding my breath for it to be as good as Unity.

the locked animations were precisely why it felt great to be an agile and adroit assassin. thank you but I had already seen that video and to be honest that just sounds like a terrible excuse to me (ME:A made a similar excuse on the grounds that it was an RPG). as long as the fighting animations are quick enough they can be smooth and natural and they won't eliminate the reaction window. the transition between animations in TLOU is a testimony to how it should be done.
games with mechanics similar to the souls series rely heavily on short animations to add more control over the moves and increase reaction time, I agree. BUT, have you played The Surge? give it a go and you'll realise that smooth animations won't hinder gameplay as long as they are well-crafted.
a lot of thought goes into each animation, and once you've been locked into the animation following a press of a button that means you made your decision and you must now live with the consequences of it.

Seems more generic somehow, and scaling buildings like previous games did was pushing it, but it worked. Scaling sheer rocky cliffs and vertical rocks with nothing to grab? Kinda silly looking. The animations look unfinished or something.

thnx you, i assume these are uncompressed feeds?
The game does look great, but i find the lack of base ps4 and xbox one footage strange, i know they are trying to boost sales for the X but the majority of people will play these games on the normal weaker models, how do those games look compared to these videos we are bombarded with.
All these games like FC5, AC:O, State of decay 2,shadow of war, days gone etc etc look awesome but only show on the 4k models not the base versions

I agree 100% with the animations. I watched in horror those IGN gameplay videos of the game at E3. The animations are SO bad. They are incredibly stiff looking and combat in very close quarters, like small interiors, looks very awkward.

Even the characters traversal is all over the place with him moving at the speed of a sprint after landing a running jump even though his feet haven't started moving fast yet to match that speed.
It looks so bad when he pulls the bow out in the middle of combat too lol. Maybe a quick fire like Batman Arkham would make more sense.

exactly a great gameplay choice. With the previous AC games you can literally win every battle by pressing counter attack. I'm liking they're using Witcher 3's combat gameplay. Every hit counts.
