Looks very atmospheric,Jeez I think I sound like a broken record but the atmosphere alone sold me the game.
But we shoudl know how things get if we start to say that this games beats some of the "Kings" of graphics out there and I think it does by the way!
GOW, NG, DMC...etc. they are linear.
I do think that this game belongs in the former category though, but hopefully it takes steps to not just be a complete God of War clone like say Dante's Inferno. It already has a great visual identity to set itself apart, i just hope the gameplay is not so mash-friendly as GoW.
I agree that when people tlak about combat, NG, DMC and Bayonetta are the 3 main titles that will be mentioned.
I dont see any vibes from Castlevania that is GOW-ish.
People see whip "oh no God of War!", no God of War didnt invent whip/chain weapon at all, it didnt invent the combat genre, it didnt invent epic scale boss fights, it didnt invent whip swings...God of War didnt invent one single thing that is genre changing at all.
Yes I hate the people who say "God of War clone" when God of War is as much of a clone of multiple of other games, main one being Rygar.
Again, remove scale, visuals, gore and the "PS exclusive" it is nothing simple as that.
QTE sucks, never liked it.
Mashy combat belongs to DMC1 because thats what I did LOL
There is another game that never came out of Japan that was on PS2. But for the life of me I can't remember the name, it was super violent, tons of blood and all. Kind of like God Hand meets DMC type, its super old but I dont know if its older than GOW or not, looked like it.
If I come up with the name I will tell you.
But all in all, over the top violent in the this genre started for me on NG (came out before GOW) seeing alot of blood for one simple slash from the sword, let alone pulling off the combos.
In the end, over the top violent with tons of blood isnt something I call genre changing, its just a cosmetic change to please the eye nothing more.
Bayonetta, now thats something special right there LOL

I see we are on the same page as to what are the action kings in this genre.
GoW its well a game with nice scale, gore and QTEs thats all.

No, Ninja Gaiden was not over the top violent in the same sense as God of War. Sure there was blood in NG, but GoW just took it too a whole other level. You think QTEs suck, i don't see how that really makes any difference for the point i'm trying to make? No, DMC is not mashy, at least not if you want to end up with good scores at the end of each stage, but then i want to remember you not even really giving the series a fair chance so your opinion on it is not really that valuable imo.
I just disagree, God of War mixed elements in a way that hadn't been seen before and the fact that you don't like the result very much does not make it any less impactfull. I'm not saying that you have to like it ofc, but i don't see why you can't recognize what the game brought back when it was released.
Yes, NG isnt as over the top as GOW, but it was the first one that I played that gave me that impact when I did my combos, but GOW went to the next level definitely, and Ninja Gaiden 2 went to the next level, I am sure sometime in the future we will continue this trend.
Again, IMO what GOW offered was a game with epic scale, nice visuals, great orchestral music, violence.
I am not saying it is bad because it is not, but IMO the combat wasent anything worth going back to, nor was the characters, especially Kratos that I hate very much.
But you, the more of these games, the better.
And lately we have seen "clones" for better and for worse, I am just happy they are coming in as they are :)
a) This has a story;
and b) The protagonist has something which resembles a personality.
The combat itself doesn't look any less solid, and the visual design is fantastic.
But purely visually i still think it looks as good as it does tahnks to great art direction, because tech.wise i can't see anything that i'd call mindblowing :P
I agree with Blmbox
This game better than GOW for simple things...
1. Character isnt annoying in design and personality, doesnt make you puke.
2. Art design is actually worth a damn.
3. Story is much better (too much Greek story for me, Xena, Hercules, 300, Gladiator, Clash of the Titans....etc. enough!)
Combat is simple, but so was Darksiders, and yet it turned out fantastic because of the art and gameplay stuff it had.

Darksiders had pretty horrible combat and the art was...well, let's just say that it looked a bit owerworked in some places :P Darksiders worked because of the puzzle dungeons if you ask me, had it been just combat it'd have suckd balls :P
