GSY Video PC

A day before Gamescom opened its doors to the press, we were invited by Nvidia to play a bunch of game using Ray Tracing technology and we were able to bring back some footage for 3 of them. Inside, you will witness how truly impressive Minecraft can look (no irony here), you'll have a sneak peek at Remedy's use of the tech in Control and finally you'll see Wolfenstein: Youngblood patched with RTX. We also got a chance to play a bit of Watch_Dogs 3, whose reflections were pretty amazing, but capture wasn't allowed for this one.

Checked the Control vid.Would be better without the RTX on/off indicator because without that sometimes you need to watch closely to see which one is ray traced. I doubt that I would notice all the time if I concentrate to the gameplay. Not worth to play it with RTX now but it will be nice to revisit a game 4-5 years later.

I have the topline RTX card (2080 ti) and for me the hit to the frames is just not worth it when some scenes are way too similar and others honestly i prefer aesthetics of RTX Off probably because I'm used to 'artistic' lighting as opposed to a computed one.

For example Metro Exodus i can do 4k60 on Ultra but with RTX on i have to go down to High and there i still lose 20 frames to get 4k40. Not complaining, more highlighting the performance hit that to me is rarely gonna be worth it.

Cool tech though and it really improves look and feel in some scenerios.  But for me I'm waiting for better optimisation.

I'm most intrigued by the lighting aspects of ray-tracing.
in Control, the lighting is already decent but it's actually incorrect on many of the insets of the walls.
for many years gamers have been use to fake light sources. and placed stage lights on characters.

you would be surprised to find the degree of un-realism in the shadows and light bouncing that no one catches.
despite the RTX comparisons display slight changes in the environments.
improper lighting and shadow casting is a big issue that RTX actually addresses.
it's only disappointing that it still takes a bit of resources to render.

Minecraft looks great but Control looks unreal. I mean why everything seems to be made out of glass or polished to death with rtx on in Control?

The best middle way in Metro: Exodus for me is 1440p. This way i get the best of both worlds.

Anyone that has been familiar with real tray tracing since the 80s or 90s will find RTX to be a complete joke. It's good that they got the ball rolling but RTX is not even doing 5% of a real, fully ray traced scene. I just wish they would stop calling it ray tracing. It's half baked approximations and you can't even really see a difference a lot of times, and other times it actually looks better without it.
