GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One

RAGE 2 is also playable for the press at Gamescom and we recorded some gameplay footage for you guys. It's not always easy to pick up a controller and play when it's the first time you've approached the game, but we did our best. Enjoy!

How were the controls?

If you played Doom (2016), did the gameplay feel like that or different?

Didn't play enough of DOOM to compare, but I found the character to be a bit slow while sprinting.

Outch, I compared the Gamescom footage with the E3 footage set in the same area and it seems like the graphics were downgraded...

the indoor stuff looked nice. i get the impression the outdoor shot at the end has been specifically created for the demo due to the RAGE branded boulder flying at the player. which i assume they didn't want to put a ton of time into seeing as it's never going to happen in the game proper.

the footage i've seen of the car combat though shows it's a pretty looking open world. looks like a nicer version of mad max, which looked nice too. strong focus on lighting and volumetrics to give the air a "thick" atmosphere.

Looks boring. At least RAGE 1 had nice art direction. Landscape looks nice.

I guess that's what they needed in order to sustain a 60 fps experience on console.

It is on the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, no idea what this demo was running on though. And if that's for a 30 fps build, then that makes the downgrade even more worrying.

Really? I read that they aim for 60fps on PRO and X. That would have explained why suddenly the game got much less impressive looking graphically.

btw bring Carmack back! ;p

no thanks lol

and base consoles it's 30fps. and they are indeed aiming for 60 on pro and x...which usually just means it'll float around 30-50 lol. if they achieve it, then cool. but i wouldn't hold your breath.

Yeah probably unlocked framerate even with the worse visuals now -_-
They shouldn't have go fully open world with this one, ah well.

the first RAGE had a huge issue of it's world feeling completely and utterly incidental. like it only really served as a thing to drive across but not much else. going fully open world introduced more opportunities for gameplay between "levels", it's just a matter of whether they'll actually do it or not.

i'm certainly more interested in this than i was the first game though. the first game had absolutely no redeemable qualities except it's framerate. if they can capture the car combat of mad max, or better it (should be easy since it's the same developers) that will already be a huge upgrade from the first RAGE. if they can inject some actual fun into what the first RAGE did in regards to first person combat (seems evident they are since combat now looks like bulletstorm) then i think that will put it well above the original too. and if they can make the open world feel less pointless, i think they're onto a winner.
